Drunken Air Rage Thugs Face Lifetime Flight Ban Under New Crackdown

Air Rage.jpg

Passengers who become drunk, violent or abusive on flights could be banned from flying altogether under radical new plans being considered by ministers.

Officials are exploring the creation of a national "no-fly" blacklist that would prevent repeat offenders from simply booking with a different airline after being banned by another carrier.

The proposals come amid a surge in so-called air rage incidents that have seen flights diverted, cabin crew assaulted and holidaymakers caught up in frightening mid-air confrontations.

Ministers Consider National No-Fly List

Under the plans, information about passengers involved in serious incidents would be shared across the aviation industry through a centrally managed system.

Currently, airlines can ban disruptive passengers from travelling with them in future, but those individuals can often avoid punishment simply by booking with a rival carrier.

The proposed scheme aims to close that loophole and make it far harder for persistent troublemakers to return to the skies.

Air Rage Incidents Soar

The crackdown follows a sharp rise in reports of drunken and disorderly behaviour on aircraft.

According to figures from the Civil Aviation Authority, airlines recorded just 390 incidents involving intoxicated, violent or unruly passengers in 2019.

By 2023, that figure had surged to 1,245 cases and has remained above 1,000 annually since then.

Many incidents have resulted in emergency diversions, causing major disruption for passengers and significant costs for airlines.

Violence In The Aisles

Several high-profile incidents have made headlines in recent months.

In February, a flight travelling from Turkey to Manchester was forced to make an emergency landing in Brussels after a violent confrontation broke out on board.

Another flight from Antalya to London Gatwick was diverted after an allegedly intoxicated passenger verbally abused crew members and allegedly assaulted a member of cabin staff.

Video footage of such incidents has spread widely online, fuelling public concern about passenger behaviour.

Industry Backs Tougher Measures

Airlines have welcomed proposals for a national blacklist.

Industry leaders argue that repeat offenders should face consequences that extend beyond a ban from a single airline.

They say a shared system would improve safety, reduce costly diversions and offer greater protection for cabin crews and passengers alike.

Campaigners have also pointed to growing public support for tougher action against disruptive travellers.

Civil Liberty Concerns Raised

Not everyone is convinced.

Critics have warned that a government-administered blacklist could create difficult questions about fairness, privacy and rehabilitation.

They argue that any scheme would need clear rules covering who is placed on the list, how appeals would work and whether bans should eventually expire.

Others fear the concept could create a precedent for wider government-backed blacklists affecting access to services in other areas of life.

A Warning To Would-Be Troublemakers

Ministers insist the plans are aimed at the small minority of passengers whose behaviour puts others at risk.

While officials say people should still be free to enjoy a drink before flying, they also argue that violence, intimidation and drunken abuse have no place on board an aircraft.

If the plans move forward, repeat air-rage offenders could soon discover that one drunken outburst is enough to leave them permanently grounded.

The entire global social construct is deteriorating rapidly. Respect for valid authority is waning. Too many participation trophies and not enough butt whoopings.

Well, the say excessive mastrubation makes your vision blurry. Could that be the reason you cant identify a drunk ignoring the flight attendant and a passanger that help her solve the situation?

The science is clear. Cram any social species animal into a space, then continually reduce the space per occupant. Eventually and inevitably it kicks off.

And, if that drunken outburst occurred on a flight to Thailand, that would presumably leave them permanently banged up in the IDC after their overstay. Oh dear, how sad!😭

Being in a small seat is no excuse for becoming violent and abusive

Banning yobs won't stop them from being yobs on the ground. Ban them from football matches too. Unrelated to airplanes but a way of teaching them.

Some comments on that video.

Shows some see the picture, some don't!

Picked up like a bag of garbage, never resisted this guy knowing the outcome.

JD will say he was a perfectly innocent man and claim hate crime on the man who helped control the situation.

Not all heroes wear capes

sometimes they have white T-shirts earbuds. And take control.

Why on Earth are they not already banned from flying for life?....

Not an option if buying the cheap seat was already stretching your budget.

Of course it is - no surprise there. If only there was also a Muslim involved somewhere....

I thought that you meant that if airlines decrease the seat sizes, then you must expect people to get angry and yell abuse at the stewardesses

Then 1, Don't fly 2, Save up a bit more.

Stop selling booze in airline terminals.

How many times have I ( no probably all of us) been in a departure lounge for an early morning flight while drunken groups are tying on an all nighter?

6 pints of Stella and a full fried breakfast before 4 hours in an airline cabin - what a surprise - they can rarely control themselves in normal circumstances!

Where did I mention seat sizes?

Anyone causing trouble in air should be charged the entire operating cost of the flight. And then put on global no-fly list.

How else would you reduce a persons space on a flight ?

I’m sure you can imagine something, you usually do and have already done so.

So, what did you mean then ?

"Cram any social species animal into a space, then continually reduce the space per occupant."

There’s lots of science on the matter.

Here, let me you offer you the opportunity to learn about some of it:

TBH I didn't read the entire article. But, this cannot be applied to all humans. Each has his own 'thing'.

So, how is the space in the airplanes continually being reduced ?

Sorry Nick, I’m not up for your spirited impersonation of a three year old’s constant questions.

However, I’m not averse you you learning stuff:

Just trying to work out what you are saying .

Instead of keep firing irrelevant links at me , just explain what your post meant .

"Cram any social species animal into a space, then continually reduce the space per occupant."

OK, you wasn't going on about the seat size being reduced , so what was you going on about ?
