American Food Shortages and Skyrocketing Prices: Is this true?

After watching the vid for a few seconds, I realize this biased YT'er is filming from California....so no surprise there. He also mentioned the price of grapes with a comparison of prices of today vice 20 years ago. Hint: Saltine crackers has risen approx. 60% since 20 years ago.

If I had to guess, this snowflake is a far left liberal and voted for Hillary, Obama, Kamala, and Gavin. So again, no surprise he (no assumption of gender intended) sees the US as unlivable. He should move to Canada...the cost of living is so much better there 😏

This guy usually films in Miami and environs.

Then, when the weather gets too hot for him, he decamps for California during the next few months.

It is always important to seek the most unbiased reports of anything of interest to one.

Mostly, this guy talks about real estate prices, etc.

I think he does a good job promoting whatever it is that he is communicating.

However, I just questioned his figures about the skyrocketing food prices.

Now, it seems that he was fairly on target.

No food shortages, but food prices are way over the top due to tariffs and cost of fuel to transport. To say the food prices are about the same is complete B.S. 12oz bag of coffee I used to get at

  • I'm posting from the USA. No food storages. Prices are about the same. Some of the items I buy are down. Gas is down about $1 from last month.

So then...

The linked video, meaning the information in the linked video, is, basically. and in your view....

Garbage?

i dont watch social media videos. i have enough reading to do.

beef is stupid priced in my opinion. pork is fair, chicken cheap, veggies very cheap now. whats expensive are value added foods, gourmet foods, imported foods and luxury foods. id like to see the individual categories, but if folks are whinging about food prices, its because their own choices. think of millionaire bernie sanders screaming no kings because the gourmet shop kicked up a tin of beluga by 30 percent.

i love caviar btw. ikura too

But then, you won't have access to real Thai food, which is BETTER than American food.

There is Thai food in America as good as any you can get here. All kinds, from This who moved there and opened restaurants

Yes, there are two Thai restaurants in the small town that I live in run by Thai people.

OK, so I actually started to watch the vid. Typical BS, first item he discussed is cereal, and not even seeing the item himself, 'someone' tells him an 8oz (?) serving of, Seven Sundays (premium cereal from premium vendor) cost $11-$12, from Whole Foods, from AI ... "Whole Foods is generally considered a premium, more expensive grocery store." ...

Or buy same, at Walmart, from AI ... "Walmart, which routinely discount 8 oz boxes to $6.99." ... OR, can buy bulk from Seven Sundays, even cheaper.

Didn't waste any more time. Same as TH, can buy premium items from Villa, Tops, Gourmet market, or same quality for less, at Makro.

You can buy an IPhone, or a Xiaomi, just depends if you have more money than sense.

12oz bag of coffee I used to get at $5.99 is now $10.99.

Loaf of Orowheat bread I used to get at $3.59 is now $5.49

My big 2lb Quaker Oats old fashion cut was $4.99 now $6.49

My N.Y. steaks bone in, used to be $12.99 a lb, now $19.99

The MAGA types will always come up with an alternative reality to cover for their guru. Ridiculous.

Off to Costco to get a giant bag of coffee to try and save there.

quick scan of walmart website.... I can see 60% saving over your "now" prices.

I do not believe it.

I have had Chinese food in the USA, and it never measures up to Chinese food available in China.

I never eat pizza in Chiang Mai, either.

I would definitely go....for sure.

However, I really doubt I will ever be in the neighborhood.

Maybe I should get into the import export business, or something.

Maybe I could become a spy, for example.

This is not at all true. I've visited Wholefoods in the USA and I've visited other supermarkets. For me Wholefoods is the closer to the quality in UK/Europe. The foods in the other supermarkets were barely fit for human consumption. Additives and pretend products. People who cannot afford to shop at the likes of Wholefoods and don't have access to farm products may be exposed to a poor quality diet.

Walmart is low end. Makro's cheaper products are bulk standard. But if you are used to product of a lower quality, they'll seem fine to you.

Minimum wage has tripled since 2000. As an example now in Calif the shop rate for car repair is $150. hr, a jack of all trades handyman thinks he's worth $100. hr.

I'm a believer in the fact that Covid gave businesses the pass to gouge it's customers.

The federal minimum wage in the U.S. for 2026 is $7.25 per hour, but 30 states and the District of Columbia have set higher rates, with the highest at $18.40 per hour in D.C.

Didn't they fire the real people working at the BLS and replace them with Trump sycophants? Hardly a reliable source for data any more.

The data is still reliable and has not been rejected as invalid by reputable entities. Can you name some of the organizations who are disputing the data I referenced?

American Food Shortages and Skyrocketing Prices: Is this true?

Dear Folks,

Sometimes we watch YT vids and we can’t tell what might be reflective of the true state of affairs in our home countries, and what might be just fabrication in order to get views.

For example:

Here is a guy, Mike Bordenaro, who is shouting from the rooftops about dire food shortages and exploding food prices in America, these days.

Is this true?

Is America really this expensive, these days?

If so, then….

We ain’t NEVER going back.

Still…what is the truth?

How would we really know without returning to America, or some other “home country”, just in case you are not American?

Also, if the American situation is actually this dire, then China must be TEN-times better, at the moment, even with China’s own challenges.

If this is true:  Then, this is a real shocker. How could things have ever devolved and spiralled down so radically, ….since I was last in the USA….when Bill Clinton was elected?

Any good and insightful thoughts?

Best regards,

Gamma

Note:  Thankfully, I have an utter disliking for American breakfast cereal, if it costs, according to this vid, about 8USD for a small box.

And, who does not know by now.....American breakfast cereal is basically just garbage in a cardboard box, and they still charge you for it?

Empires rise and empires fall. End of story.

Fool's errand

There's 4 Chinese restaurants in San Antonio alone that are excellent. Owned and run by Chinese. There are also many that are buffets and terrible. Food you could use to change your oil.

I frequented 4 in San Antonio area that were also run by Thais. One from Korat that was near my store I went to quite often, and that I visit when I visit home to see family. Top of the line and always packed. I had to get there early if i didn't want to wait.

I am in America right now and have been for the last couple of months, unfortunately.

Haven't seen anything resembling a food shortage, but I have seen prices skyrocketing and anybody who claims that the official government numbers on inflation are even approaching reality, is living in a very thick cloud of delusion.

I specifically used California as example.

I look forward to reading your paper on inflation that includes empirical evidence.

In the internet bunker, hunkered over the screen, sucking up vids. Who knows what goes on out in the real world eh GG?! Why not step Outside. try to make it down to Nimman or Maya mall for coffee or breakfast. Baby steps sure, but it is a start.

As always our hopes and prayers are with you.

Why are you back in USA? You couldn't hack it in Thailand?

We know why you are back in Canada because you could not handle Thailand. What a stupid comment coming from you

As it happens, I read in a Dutch newspaper today that the shortage of fertiliser for agricultural use here in Thailand is becoming a major problem, forcing prices to rise significantly.
