Trouble is, most are 3G and not supported by Thai networks anymore. Dumbphone was good enough for me. Tin can without the string. Damned unfriendly to text people! Waddya need colour for?

Yes, the signal was or is about to be switched off in my country, depending on which source you consult. But it still works at present.

Given the zillions of ways that they can spy on anyone who uses a smartphone, probably not a bad decision. Especially for gov't employees.

For anyone else, they can also see where you've been and do facial recognition (with GPS) on anybody that's in any of your photos and videos. They can also see whatever your smartphonre camera sees even if you don't snap the photo or video. And listen in on anything that's said within earshot of your smartphone, even when it's in your pocket not being used.

They may be paranoid, but they're not wrong.
