Warren G. Harding built it on swampland and the structure beneath it would have been fine - if it had been built on stable ground. The whole thing started sinking slowly. Presidents all the way up through Carter kept trying to prop it up with little cement pours, and regularly draining and cleaning it. Algae was a problem even then because there was no real circulation system. No pumps. No filters.
Reagan added some more concrete, realizing the entire pool was now 12 or 13 inches lower than it should be. It had sunk over a foot and pulled loose from its structure. Clinton publicly acknowledged that the entire pool needed demolished and rebuilt, and that it would take hundreds of millions of dollars to do it right. The Bushes just kept trying to plug leaks and clean it. Every time they had to drain and scrub the thing, it cost around $100,000 to do so. George W. Bush actually had plans drawn up to rebuild it. Obama decided to revise and execute the Bush renovation, which was needed, but it was flawed, and he spent tens of millions of dollars on it. He raised the pool up with a timber under-structure so the water ended up being even shallower, which means that’s the point at which the water started getting warmer. He also turned off the chlorinated city water supply into the pool and began pumping water in from the tidal basin - that’s the somewhat stagnant water that comes in from the Potomac River and surrounds the Jefferson Memorial.
There was algae before, but with those changes came even more algae. Obama‘s reasoning was that the basin water would be cheaper instead of using the city water supply. He had the pool tiles removed from the bottom and another layer gray cement put in place along with gray-tinted reflective paint, which gradually faded away. By the time Trump’s first term came around, the cleaning had to be done every three or four months, some of the Obama structural repairs were failing, and the leaks were rampant again. By the time Biden got into office, Obama’s reflecting pool fixes were cracked and the pool was leaking hundreds of thousands (probably millions) of gallons of water. Biden opted to clean the pool, but performed little maintenance, and did no substantial refurbishment.

Trump’s fix was to try something that the other presidents hadn’t. Whereas Obama had used a gray reflective paint and cement, Trump tried a combination sealant liner - it isn’t paint. Those sealants are similarly light-reflective to what Obama used. Trump switched up to blue from the dark gray. He added nanobubblers. When we walked around it the other day, there was only a small patch on the middle of the left side that may have been coming up. It was too windy and stormy to see why. It was not as if the sealant was coming up all over the pool and floating to the top because it wasn’t. We did see the algae cleaning going on and the crews, you could tell, were tired of being harassed for doing their jobs.

Vandals have damaged the grass, they’ve cut into the liner in other places and the knife lines are clear in the videos. We did see the National Guard soldiers coming in. We also saw them placed around the America 250 construction area and in between the museums. Five vandals have been arrested since we walked through. It’s unbelievable to me that they want to destroy something we could all enjoy out of hatred for a president whose policies they don’t even understand. And the mainstream media is reprehensible. They aren’t reporting. They’re spinning propaganda as usual.

Is Kerry McQuisten a reliable source, or is she just another MAGA political mouthpiece?
Can you support all of the claims you posted with real, verifiable evidence?

You're reading the wrong news sources. There's already been multiple arrests. Being DC, if they go to a District Judge, I'm sure they'll get off. But Pirro wants the cases to go Federal. That's 10 years...

Is that a reflection of the state judicial system ( yes I know DC is not a "state" ) or the depths to which political interference has dragged down the Federal system?

An unsourced video, likely from SM! 🤣

I tend to think that not only should vandals be ruthlessly prosecuted by the Federal justice system (don't worry too much about evidence - after all Jeanine Pirro is the prosecutor and she doesn't really bother about it) but those taking the piss should also be hounded by the Federal authorities.

After all, the dignity of the Office of President is at stake!

Great event.

Big events always require repairs and the grass will recover (plus no taxpayer hit, as UFC and sponsors are covering it). ScottsMiracle-Gro even pledged $1M in cash, custom seed blend (tall fescue/bluegrass), and expertise for full restoration by spring 2027, working with the National Park Service.

I am sure the leftist vandals will give their monies for damage they caused..

The manner in which this pool cleaning unfolded is a perfect example of everything that is wrong with both Trump and his tenure as the supposed leader of a major democracy.

Amen that brother, amen that. 200% thumbsup

His Reflecting Pool failure is symptomatic of Prospect Theory, which predicts that people facing losses become increasingly willing to take extreme risks to avoid them.

Trump's pattern of loss-averse risk-seeking has repeatedly driven compounding failures across his presidency—from the release and cover-up of Epstein rape allegations and enforcing illegal tariffs to the Trump-Kennedy Center humiliation, the $1.776 billion slush fund collapse, the 2026 Iran War surrender, and the halt on the WH ballroom demolition.

His first presidency displayed the same dynamic following his 2020 election loss, culminating in the January 6th attempted insurrection, his aborted strike on Iran, the sudden recall of troops from Afghanistan and Somalia, and the joint Milley-Speaker nuclear code intervention.

In prospect theory's loss domain, the predicted outcome is escalation, not retreat—a psychological trap in which a cornered executive repeatedly doubles down on catastrophic, low-probability gambles.

Driven by an all-consuming dread of permanent humiliation, each new failure fuels more reckless action and deeper constitutional brinkmanship, where setbacks become fuel for a scorched-earth struggle for political survival—leaving the world to wonder:

What is Trump capable of next?

Prospect Theory (Daniel Kahneman & Amos Tversky, 1979) holds that losses are weighted more heavily than equivalent gains. As a result, individuals tend to be risk-averse in the domain of gains but risk-seeking in the domain of losses, as described in their 1979 Econometrica paper, 'Prospect Theory: An Analysis of Decision under Risk.'

I've got a theory about this, to which I'm sure some of the MAGAs will subscribe. Rational people, bear with me. This is very Trumpian, so it takes a special kind of suspension of logic to embrace. Sniff some vapors from the MAGA fever swamps, and it might make sense to you.

My theory is certainly as believable as the "vandalism" argument.

So here it is:

I'm thinking it's another Hugo Chavez act, like what Trump's lawyer Sidney Powell proposed in 2016 regarding Dominion Voting Machines and altered votes.

Hugo was once again summoned from the beyond, this time via a prison seance held by jailed Nicolas Maduro. He instructed Chavez to write some code and upload it. This time, however, it wasn't to an Italian satellite, as Sidney Powell had said back in 2016, but rather to one of Marjorie Taylor Greene's Jewish Space Lasers. Those lasers then fired a beam into the Reflecting Pool, tearing the blue material away from the bottom. Apparently disagreement over Trump's MoU with Iran was the spark.

At the same time, 95 year old George Soros paid some antifa ninja warriors to pour some specially formulated Algae Grow into the "crystal clear water", and once triggered by the warming from the Jewish Space laser, the algae proliferated faster than a Trump conspiracy theory.

While I won't mention names, I can think of two MAGAs in this thread who will be on board with this theory, because it's better than what they are proposing.

Significantly more believable than any explanation coming out of the White House.

here is a picture of the "master" mind behind the renovation of the reflecting pool... The grifter's excuse

Specifically, he claimed people had "some form of knife and blade" and made a 250-foot-long gash. He also claimed "corrosive and destructive" chemicals were poured into the pool.

just see how he speaks about himself

I just inspected it, and could only say to myself, and those gathered around me, WOW, who would do such a thing? SICK, DERANGED PEOPLE!"

He then capped it off by threatening a casual 10-year prison sentence "for such destruction."

But forget the 10-year prison sentences, because the internet has discovered the guy who was actually hired to fix the pool in the first place.

If you are not embarrassed by this insanity---prosecuting people for touching the water or claiming they "might have" put some magic algae-growing potion into the pool---then you are so pure MAGA, you make the Kool Aid drinkers at Jonestown in 1978 look like dabblers in a cult, not full fledged lunatics. The drunkard Jeanine Pirro, fresh off a series of abject failures trying to prosecute anybody, is now going after the "vandals" re the Reflecting Pool incompetence and corruption.

This is a new wrinkle on Fascism: prosecuting people to salve the ego of a petulant child, aka Trump.

So much talk of vandalism and sabotage! For several days I was convinced that the vandalism was the work of Messrs Obama and Clinton, masterminded by Biden.

Of course it could just be a cock up, but surely that is unlikely?
