Thai Forks Flimsy & Thai Meat Tough:  Can you explain this oddity?

Dear Folks,

While savoring your cup of coffee, this morning, I would ask you to consider this question.

Why are Thai forks so flimsy and Thai meat so tough?

Do you know why?

Thank's for any forthcoming elucidation....

Best regards,

Gamma

Note:  It is a sorry thing to prang one’s fork, encountering a tough piece of meat.

Once bent, rarely can it be restored to proper shape.

Ask you best friend Gemini.

You get what you pay for, BUT, you don't have to pay silly prices either.

Choose wisely.

... at home, I sacrifice a bit flavor for tenderness, and simply cook beef tenderloin in beef tallow or duck fat, to replace a bit of the fat flavoring. 1030 THB / kg, so not breaking the bank.

... only place I used to eat steak out of house, "You Hunt, We Cook", as you pick the meat, from their offering, or within the Gourmet Market, where they are located. When the cook asks you what temp you want your steak at, they know their stuff. Perfect every time, and if you time it right, you can wash it down with your choice of alcoholic beverage. No ambience, but I'm there to eat, not impress the wife.

Do that with my choice of accommodation or food vendor's view. Pluses if the food is good also.

Sadly, Big C took over Gourmet Market @ Hua Hin, and as they always do, completely ruin it. Did the same when they took over CarreFour @ Udon Thani & Pattaya.

I am thinking, at this point in time in my life....

I should splurge, and just buy the tenderest meat I can find....

One Only Lives Twice, or so it is said....

Here is a bit of tender meat.....

TOPS does not sell much meat, so very unfortunately.

(There must be a reason for this. And I think I know the reason.)

COSTCO sells NO meat here.

......Only Pattaya.....maybe.....sells tender meat.....

Maybe I will become a complete VEGETARIAN, and then just not worry about meat, no longer.

I am sure I can survive on Adzuki beans, instead of Thai meat...

Almost indefinitely.

Anyway, I am still chewing the meat from last night's pork.

Tastes so good......

Really?

Had a nice 450gm chunk of Australian Black Angus prime rib last night, the Villeroy & Boch fork had no issue.

I suggest you buy better meat and cutlery.

Low quality & Low quality, which part is even a question. What you put into something, you get out, not more.

Sounds as if your meat is forked. Being bent probably doesn't help your situation. It sounds like it's only the clap though. Did you catch it from a local guy?

Another oddity about Thai food is that the food is extremely spicy, desserts however are almost tasteless.

Yeah, this one is easy to answer.

You buy <deleted> knifes on the cheap, and same with meat. You just got to up your game Gamma! Buy the way, the plate looks like you found it in a 20 baht shop too. 😂

Nice plate though.....

DO YOU NOT THINK?

Take another glance at the cobalt blue plate.

In Thailand, maybe, forks are not up to snuff.

But, ceramics?

They do it well.

Actually....

I will.

Thank you for the good advice.

There is really no point in not buying the good stuff.

Life is just too short.

I AGREE WITH YOU.....

I just need to find a good source.

Or, local universities...

Eat with your hands and use dental floss.

A Bit off topic, but later when you need to go ... why is toilet paper so thin??

Next time try the mu version instead of the wua shoe leather stuff.

We came across a humpback shoe leather version along a road this morning…

The only solution is to bring your own utensils. I'm a vegetarian but I swear they use recycled tinfoil to make those forks!

The meat available here might necessitate my becoming vegetarian, or mostly, other than fish and eggs.

What do they feed the hogs and cattle with, anyway?

You get what you pay for - geez - always these guys fussing around who don't want to spend money for good food.

Eat meat less often - but when you do - choose wisely.

Wagyu - first class produced here in Thailand.

OK.

I agree.

But now, where do I buy high quality pork?

I want to stew things like: HongShao TiPang.

But, the pork if have seen is not suitable.

Where to buy?

Darn Good.

But, you need the right meat for it.

My carnivore friends say sawdust.

Stick mostly to ground beef.

Otherwise, you need to fork out $$ for good cuts of beef.

OR ... stew cheap cuts for hours if you have the patience.

Chicken is fine.

Not sure about pork, don't eat much pork.
