You know this was not a staged event, so why make the claim? If the intent was to injure journalists, it could have been achieved at the regular entrance where the journalists entered and bunched up to go through the metal detectors and bag screening. Cabinet secretaries entered through a secure area.

Getting into a hotel with weapons in the US is not difficult. No metal detectors at hotels in order to check in. The White House Correspondents Dinner has been at the DC Hilton for decades. He sprinted past the first Secret Service Checkpoint where he was met with gunfire which is expected. He would have never gotten into the ballroom where the dinner was being held because he was not invited. Actually this was a case of no planning. Not exactly related but in 1981 John Hinckley was able to get shots off at Ronald Reagan as he exited the same hotel. Reagan was shot and was just mere inches from death. Back then SS protocols were much looser in terms of protecting POTUS. It appears Cole was not a teacher but a tutor at a prep school located in a strip mall in my home town of Torrance CA.
