Thailand’s Immigration Bureau is testing a new mobile application called THIM (Thailand Immigration Management) that will allow foreign nationals to register their arrival information before travelling to the country. The system is designed to streamline entry procedures, reduce congestion at airports and improve access to immigration services.

The app is currently available for trial download on both iOS and Android devices, with full implementation scheduled for August 2026. Users can submit passport details and travel plans through the platform to generate a Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC), a process expected to take less than three minutes.

The Immigration Bureau said on 6 June 2026 that the project supports government policy aimed at improving care for foreign visitors entering Thailand as tourists or under various visa categories. Authorities have also been instructed to strengthen oversight of foreign nationals staying in the country while reducing problems that affect Thailand’s tourism image, including airport congestion and difficulties contacting officials.

Pol Lt Gen Panumas Boonyalug, commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, assigned Pol Maj Gen Pratchaya Prasansuk, deputy commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, to oversee development of the THIM platform. The bureau said the project seeks to balance national security requirements with greater convenience for travellers seeking entry permission under immigration laws.

Foreign nationals can register through the app by entering passport information or photographing their passports, allowing the system to automatically read and record the data. Travellers then provide accommodation details, travel information and other relevant information required for the TDAC process. The bureau said all data will be stored within an immigration information system developed jointly with a globally credible private company specialising in system security.

The app can also process information for groups of up to 10 people at once, helping reduce processing times and making travel arrangements more convenient. Officials noted that the current website-based registration system operates more slowly than the new mobile platform.

Authorities plan to expand THIM into a one-stop Super App for foreigners, serving short-term tourists, long-term residents and permanent residents. Future functions will include document requests, identity verification services, submission of immigration paperwork, appointment scheduling with immigration officers and access to a 24-hour Tourist Police assistance hotline.

The pilot version currently supports four languages: English, Russian, Japanese and Chinese. Developers intend to add at least 15 more languages in the near future to better serve travellers from around the world.

The Immigration Bureau has opened the application for public testing while additional functions are developed. The first phase focuses on TDAC registration, with further services to be added before the full rollout in August 2026.

The Nation reported that Pol Maj Gen Pratchaya Prasansuk said Thailand’s immigration system currently handles about 30 million foreign tourists annually and is expected to continue growing. He said the bureau is committed to improving the traveller experience, enhancing Thailand’s image as a modern and welcoming destination, and using secure technology to reduce processing times while strengthening national security.

I dont think the new app will solve the congestion at the airport. Only more working officers will do the job and less paperwork of course. Now a TDAC form and a boarding pass are needed, which is in no other country. Organization is the word. The app looks fine but still curious if it will work decently though

I feel the TDAC which I can fill in from my AOT app is quite sufficient for my needs and purposes and find this new app would just add to confusion.

All this information is already given via TDAC such as passport details, addresses, length of stay etc

TDAC is working well in my opinion, if it isn't broken, don't fix it.

So is the other app still applicable

I came through Suvarnabhumi on Friday from Turkey and the queues were horrendous. Far worse than I’ve seen before. Fortunately I was in a wheelchair and had completed TDAC on line before arrival so I was whisked through. But I felt sorry for the others.

I am 100% in favor of Immigration trying to automate some functions and eliminate some paperwork. Other countries have done it so it’s not impossible. However, I’d like some assurance that this new app and the new data storage is secure and my private details are protected. What I’ve read about this app so far is not at all reassuring.

What is this AOT app? I've only ever known the TDAC to be completed through the Immigration Department website before.

This is still TDAC, just an alternative method of completing it.

I've got the app although never noticed this before, but see it just opens your browser and takes you to the Immigration Department website anyway.

THIM is an Android or Apple app so needs one of these operating systems. You can get emulators for Windows laptops that allow Android apps to run, but if you don't already use one it's not worth it just for this. Continue to do it on the website using your laptop.

I used THIM last week. Easy and no issues. And just like the the original TDAC website, THIM interfaces with the necessary immigration systems, so there is no need to save or show a QR code to the IO when you arrive. The best think about THIM is you create a profile, so you don't need to enter all your personal details (name, address, passport number) everytime like you do with TDAC website.

Unless you have seen differently, once it's been submitted the information is all lost so you have to start from scratch next time. It holds a local copy until that point allowing editing. There is no profile associated with your account - no login etc.

Good to see Thailand taking the initiative for once.

This is all about collecting big data and then crunching it to the benefit of them... not you. It will not be long before AI and data collection will be deciding everything... knowledge/information is power. Won't be long before places like Thailand do a China on the Orwellian front... coming soon.

The new App is also a phone tracker so they will know exactly where you are in thailand , The THIM App is based on a Chinese state algorithm used for mass surveillance and control

No access to GPS or cell tower locations so how is it tracking you?

There are no Chinese companies active in the app development so it'd be interesting to know where this claim comes from.

App Version 2.14.0 you can create profiles and save them.

You can save 5 profiles under 'MY Profiles" and 20 profiles under 'Saved Profiles"

Yes, the update came shortly after my post. It's also being discussed from here in this thread. Note the potential facial recognition issues.

Several other countries do have an pre-travel registration requirement,online or app, like Malaysia for example.

Have you exited and entered BKK recently? The outbound eGates are very fast with no human interaction. The aim of THIM and it's eventual merging with other systems, will allow arriving foreigners to use inbound eGates, like Malaysia for example.

If you aren't a frequent international traveler or otherwise one of those not complaining about having to enter all your information every time you file a DTAC, up to you.

THIM will store your basic information so creating a DTAC within THIM will be quicker, with only the travel dates and info related to the particular trip being entered.

The profile is saved in the THIM app on your phone. When you log in, it recognises your device and recalls the personal data from your device. This is the same security as banking apps where your device is the key, not so much the username or password.
