Now, you may be on to something, this had crossed my mind. Could be in the cards in the not-too-distant future that the immigration website phases out handling things like 90-day reporting, TM30s, appointments, etc., and everyone is herded to the THIM.

Totally works fine, I used it to book advanced travel saying I was coming in in a week and it said it would email me and message me to let me know when to file the tdac/health declaration and it did.

  • Not so sure that they would. IMM would presumably still need to see original bank account confirmation letters and statements as duly stamped to verify their genuineness. Doubt whether they would be p

Sadly doubt that very much.

Currently they can't even have a system that allows 90 reporting online after trip abroad.

I can't see any value (in current form) of this THIM.

I made a fictional trip for June and now it's sending reminder message to update my health declaration in the 72 he prior to departure.

Oh how I miss the TDAC.

(yes I know you can still use TDAC)

What does THIM do

Good to have an app, provided eventually it is able to store the traveler profile. Until then I use this website which already has this feature so one only needs to add the date and flight details and it copies traveler and residence information. More convenient for frequent trips. The other advantage of an app over a website, provided it works offline, is that the incoming traveler doesn't need internet connection when landing in Bangkok.

As far as I can see it doesn't. I have a saved trip and if I turn off data it will not load. Turn it on and it loads instantly. As it stands still need to copy the QR code in case it is asked for (which most of the time it is not). Maybe things will change.

Agreed. Website for TDAC is fine.

Just wonder what immigration's plans for the THIM down the road might entail. Will it continue with a 'two-track' approach, website and app, for folks to use? The trend is for companies to herd users to apps and downscale, limit or end web-based services.

Just my view, anything that can be done by visiting a website is preferable to having to install (another) app to do it.

Exactly my thinking.

TDAC works fine.

Yes, it seems to me that it's best to just keep using the TDAC, until told otherwise. Also, the original announcement saidd it wouldn't be fully functional until October. So why not just wait? The TDACs are confirmed often within an hour.

My thinking also.

You still need to do health update within the 72hr.

When I made a fictional trip to see what's involved I lost faith when occupation has "Arms Dealer" as an option.

And it's not even April 1

The TM30 registration, as a renter, is not entirely in my control. Owner and agent cooperation are needed for that. I wonder if that is something the THIM would be dealing with, could get complicated.

As a renter you are the housemaster, you can do the TM 30 yourself.

Yes and no. I am a renter (condo), and the owner (and agent) very kindly gave me the user/password for the TM30. So, yes, I do the TM30 myself. However, once I send it off, I usually ask the owner to send me the final approved version.I've heard that there is a way to log in again and download the "informed" version. Haven't figured that out. But it's possible that the THIM might pose an issue.

Righto.

Yeah I rent a house, lease in my name.

I do my own TM30 without involving the owner.

And you can do that without a copy of the owner's ID? Without a copy of the owner's blue book? How about with the owner not having registered in the new, or relatively new, online TM30 system?

Which immigration office do you use?

I'd like to find out how you can do your own TM30 without involving the owner, or having anything to do with the owner. That would make things easier for sure, regarding the TM30. It is a drag to have to ask the agent TM30 help. (Have never met the owner, but the agent has filed the TM30 with owner docs...at least that's how I assume they've done it, because the agent hasn't clarified that. I don't think they're inclined to give me control of the email account used for the TM registration so I can update on my own.)

When I ask for an updated TM30, I get it. Kind of begrudgingly, I have to ask two or three times before I get it. That's the drag.

Edited by rwilem

Adding to my comment above. Whether it's a dedicated email account for confirming the TM30 registration and interacting with the system (as one place I lived at before handled it, giving me control of that email account)

or giving the foreigner renter the password to the TM30 site, many are not going to be as fortunate.

There are renters like myself, in my current place, who don't have and are not going have control of their online TM30s. When I suggested to the agent to give me the password to the TM 30 system and that I'd handle it myself, that got shot down. What am I gonna go? Move? Haha...

Which is what I was getting at earlier, that (many, most?) renters need cooperation from agents and/or owners for doing their TM30s.

Would be interesting to see how the THIM deals with that, if the TM30 gets put in it there when it becomes fully operative. Potential cluster comes to mind.

I believe in this scenario, you are the "possessor" rather than housemaster. Semantics aside, it is one of the descriptors on the TM30.

I'm assuming your passport and a copy of the signed lease agreement is the only proof required?

Which immigration office BTW?

Copy of the house book and his id card (both signed) is required.

In Bangkok it is possible to do a TM30 manually, at the immigration office, without any documents from the landlord. You will need a confirmed lease as one of the documents. Obviously this is going to be completely province dependent, so who can and cannot do this is going to vary widely.

I misunderstood what @Ralf001 meant by "not involving" his landlord.

If he needs the landlords ID, then the landlord is involved, but I understand now that having that information from the landlord, self-filing of the TM30 is easy enough and the landlord is not involved with that process.

Back on topic: I am sure as THIM evolves and more procedures are added or supported, many of the current "ball ache" stuff will be streamlined into it.

I dont recall if I needed copy house book and ID when I set up the tm30 account... many many beers ago.

Either way it was easy to sort and online tm30 is easy as.

Many beers, and years ago, things have changed since. At the least, if one is going to be able to do the TM30 registration and updates of one's staying at the residence, signed copies of the owner's ID and blue/house book are required. I call that 'cooperation needed', from either the owner or agent acting on the owner's behalf.

Good to know for folks who are 'TM30-less' and need one, and can get it themselves in Bangkok. But now that I'm already residing at the address registered in the TM30 online system, probably not applicable now. Don't think I could, or would want to, rock up at immigration and get a TM30 update. Might be a tad confusing, possible worm-can opener.

Weird thing is, I have attended immigration for tasks and asked to provide an updated TM30. They obviously had one on record, and I had one in hand, and this was already under the system update from about a couple years ago. I had not moved or traveled in the period since the last update. The details of my residence had not changed. But they wanted an updated TM30.

So now I ask the agent to provide me with an updated one a few weeks before I do an extension. I also notice at extension time the IO poring over that document and viewing it back and forth with whatever her computer screen is showing. Then I see reports here some folks never need to show one, or never have to update one. You know the score...case-by-case, no rhyme or reason.

The new version of the THIM app (v2.14 iOS) now supports creating an account to save travel details and profiles, eliminating the need to re-enter each time.

It includes NFC verification of passport data as discussed earlier in the thread.

I'm not 100% sure but it appears optional as taking a pic of the data page is also still supported.

The profile process includes both photo and NFC. If either of those was optional I didn't notice.

I just tried it on a non-NFC equipped phone and it skipped the step but the profile is created. It mentions it's not NFC verified and that doing so would increase/enhance my Identity Assurance Level.

The non NFC phone has a poorer camera too and it had problems with the selfie stage. Combine that with the instructions on the screen I can see a lot of complaints about this, similar to those on bank app facial recognition systems.

Tried several times to NFC my passport, both on iOS and Android, it's shows that it NFC reads it but the app doesn't show anything. Next version ;-)

I'm the odd one out.

Seems lot of guess work about what THIM may deliver in future.

Thai IT does not inspire me.

Even 90 report after trip abroad equates to online report not possible.

That's ridiculous.

Vaguely reminds me of the zillion threads after taxation for 180days +

Thinking best to see finished product of THIM.

In meantime guess work

Quite agree!

As one who worked in software development and testing for many years, I NEVER use Version 1 of anything!! It was only last year that I finally moved all my PCs from Windows 10 to 11!

Seeing as how the TDAC works well enough, I see no point in messing with this THIM for another few months / versions

Three in a row, it's a no. Unless it's forced on us, giving it a pass.

I just updated the app and registered an account. Yes, it works, but there are definitely some quirks.

The initial registration is just associating the account with an email address - and for some reason it asks for that address at two different stages, and sends an OTP each time. Ok, whatever.

Having successfully "registered", I see that my account is blank - no name or other info - even though I had already filled out and used a TDAC on the app, and it was sitting right there on the screen. (The TDAC was labeled "ready for travel" rather than "used" or "completed", even though i actually finished the trip yesterday, and the officer at the airport presumably accessed the TDAC while stamping me in.)

Ok, so now I go to "My Account", and see that I have to create a "profile", which is separate and distinct from the registration. Even though it has my completed TDAC, it doesn't ask the logical question of "would you like to use the TDAC traveler info as your profile?" - instead, you have to re-enter everything from scratch, as though you had never done it before.

So now it asks me to take a photo of the bio page of the passport (again), which is always a bit difficult due to glare on the page - and you must take a live photo, you can't used a stored image. That done, it asks to use NFC to scan the passport. The illustration shows the phone held against the front cover, but the chip in the US passport is inside the back cover, so that's where I put the phone. The scan failed the first couple of times, but finally succeeded.

At this point, I'm asked to verify my identity with a selfie. Blink, look straight, turn left - verified. Great.

Now it moves on to entering occupation, city and country of residence, and phone number. I select "Thailand" and "Bangkok" from the drop down lists, enter my phone number, and that's it (no OTP to the phone).

To see how well this worked, I then start a dummy TDAC. Ok, date of travel, coming from where, purpose of travel, departure date (optional), etc. But I have to enter my complete address in Thailand - nothing was made available from the previous TDAC. (I do realize that tourists will probably stay at a different location each time, so the developers may not have thought there was any need to store the address.)

Then comes the personal information, and I am finally able to select my saved profile. Great, except that it shows my country of residence as USA, which is not what I had entered.

I delete the dummy TDAC and go back to my profile. Sure enough, the app changed my residence from "Bangkok, Thailand" to "Bangkok, USA" 🙄 So I can edit it, right? No, there's no edit button. Can I delete it and try again? Well, you can only delete it if you add another profile first. So I try to create another profile for myself to see if the error repeats itself, but after I do the NFC scan, the app tells me that there's already a profile with that passport number, so I can't continue. So, I'm stuck with the mistake in the profile.

Sorry for the lengthy message, but the upshot is that the only time saving from having a profile vs. just doing the TDAC on the website is the 30 seconds or less it takes to enter your name and passport info (especially since Google can usually fill in your name automatically) - everything else must be manually entered each time.

So is that worth the ten minutes or so that it takes to create the profile? Probably not, though I suppose it could be useful to have all your TDACs nicely stored together in one place on the app.

Given the seemingly excessive identity verification that takes place in the app, the only thing I can think of is that it's creating the possibility of allowing auto-gate usage at some point in the future. As long as we still have to appear in front of an officer and hand in our physical passport, the verification through the app seems completely unnecessary, but it might be useful for an automated entry process. TBD...

I had a very similar experience registering and setting up my profile. And like you it relocated me from Thailand to the UK, although I apparently reside in a Thai named city there. Still work in progress I suppose, and perhaps they read the comments from the Aseannow beta-testers. But overall I still like it, although they could have just used the guy that did the Cambodian version which works just fine.
