A devastating fire tore through the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao entertainment venue near Lat Phrao Soi 1 in Bangkok late on 12 July, leaving 27 people dead, according to the latest official figures. Most of the victims are believed to have died from smoke inhalation after becoming trapped inside the building as thick smoke and flames spread rapidly.

The blaze was reported at 11.55pm on 12 July when Bangkok’s Rama Radio Centre received an emergency call via the 199 hotline reporting a fire at a restaurant near Lat Phrao Soi 1 in Chatuchak district. Firefighters from Sutthisan Fire and Rescue Station were the first to respond, with additional crews from Phahon Yothin, Phaya Thai and Huai Khwang stations joining the operation as the fire intensified. The venue, which operated as a restaurant and pub, was already engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. One person with burn injuries received treatment at the scene while emergency crews battled the blaze using three hose lines. Numerous people were reported trapped inside as firefighters worked to rescue those unable to escape.

Firefighters took around 35 minutes to bring the blaze under control. Initial reports confirmed nine fatalities, with most victims found inside the toilet area at the rear of the building, while many more injured people were taken to nearby hospitals. The official death toll was later revised to 27.

After visiting the scene on 13 July, Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said preliminary accounts from musicians performing at the venue suggested they first saw smoke coming from an electrical cut-out near the stage. Moments later, the electricity failed, an explosion was heard, and dense smoke quickly filled the venue before flames spread throughout the building.

Anutin said many victims ran towards the rear of the premises and into the toilet area in an attempt to escape. He said there was no clearly identifiable emergency exit in that section of the building, or people may have fled there in panic to avoid the smoke after the main dining area filled with flames, smoke and explosions.

Matichon reported that authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire, with the reported electrical fault forming part of the preliminary inquiry. Investigators are also expected to examine the venue’s fire safety measures, including the reported lack of a clearly marked emergency exit where many of the victims were found.

Governor Probes Fire Escape Blockage in Bangkok Fire

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt visited the scene of the deadly fire at the “Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao” entertainment venue near Lat Phrao Soi 1 in Chatuchak district on 13 July 2026, as the confirmed death toll rose to 27 with a further 18 people seriously injured. The governor met officials from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department and Chatuchak district engineers to assess the damage and coordinate assistance for victims.

Chadchart confirmed that most of those who died were found near an emergency exit after apparently being unable to escape from the building. He said preliminary reports indicated that a table used to sell sweets and other items had been placed in front of the fire exit, potentially obstructing the escape route, although he stressed that forensic officers must carry out a detailed investigation before any official conclusions are reached.

The governor also said the rapid spread of the fire was believed to have been fuelled by highly flammable interior decorative materials, allowing flames to engulf the venue within minutes. He added that the venue owner was also reported to have been injured in the blaze.

The fire broke out shortly before midnight at the popular entertainment venue and restaurant near the Lat Phrao intersection. Firefighters and rescue teams from several stations responded to the emergency, carrying out CPR on victims at the scene while transporting the injured to hospitals across Bangkok.

Earlier Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, accompanied by the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau and senior officials, inspected the site and received operational briefings from emergency responders. After entering the damaged building, the prime minister expressed condolences to the families of those who had lost relatives in the disaster.

Officials reported that the building’s interior had been almost completely destroyed by fire. Rescue teams found victims gathered near toilets and inside the toilet area, leading investigators to believe that after power failed and visibility was lost, patrons mistakenly ran towards the toilets instead of the main exit, where they were overcome by smoke and flames.

Daily News reported that authorities will now inspect the building’s structure, fire systems, fittings and licensing records. Chadchart said that if investigators find the premises had been modified or emergency exits obstructed in a way that contributed to the high number of fatalities, criminal proceedings would be pursued against all those found responsible.

Too much smoke so many went to the back which they could not find a way out so they hid in the toilets. It was there that they were overcome by smoke. This according to ABC News Australia.

l am amazed at the amount of cheap plastic chairs/seats in the place!!!! These cheap seats give off toxic fumes if they catch fire or are close to a high heat source.!!!!

In one of those clips you see a girl not making it out of the entrance in that death trap, horrific scenes.

My condolences to the famlies of those who died. The owner is responsible for the conditions of the 'Pub' and in this case for the deaths. I wonder if the owner will suffer the full extent of the Law?

It was not wired correctly and was a fire hazard.

I told the owner who was not trained in electrical wiring or engineering and she informed me it was done correctly.

What's causing the flame at the main door ?

I thought at first it was the flames inside being sucked outward from when they opened the doors , but the way it moves up and down before fully blasting out it would suggest it's something flammable coming from a pipe or hose near the door .

Terrible.

The way those flames shot out the door looked like some kind of gas leak. I heard reports on X that fire exits were blocked by food stalls.

I hope those who survived can make a full recovery.

27 bodies wrappend in bedsheets all because of a fast fix, make-shift electrical connection. Very common in Bangkok dive bars. Resulting from lack of financial resources and the show must go-on mentality. RIP to the young party goers who left this world far too soon.

Friend of mine built a house, all electricity checked out everywhere, certain areas needed grounding and were good.

Lost his son in an electrocution in the shower.

A fairly new building so safety codes would have been known beforehand and seeing gas blow-torched out the main entrance implies something amiss on the design.

I don't want to prempt the investigation but in some places they lock the escape exits to prevent people not paying to get in

Hopefully this was not the case

But it has happened before

Health and safety needs to be enforced in these places and serious action taken on the people not providing safety measures for the people using these premises

Just horrible and of course brings back the even more horrific fire at Santika Night Club early hours of New Year's Day 2009. More than 60 died and 200+ injured.

Look up the venue on Google maps, look at the photos posted and you get an idea of the size of the place and the numbers of partygoers.

Look at some of the videos and you see flames shooting out of the front of the building. Looks like a giant blow touch or flame thrower.

The number of fatalities will surely increase. All young people. Tragic.

From the aftermath photos above (interior shots), I can't help but wonder if all those tables (plus all the people) became huge obstacles which made escape very difficult - that's if they even knew where the exit(s) were in the panic, smoke and confusion.

Like Santika, the above reports suggest this fire - possibly caused by an electrical short - quickly traveled across flamable materials on the ceiling.

Depends on the tester.

If you use a tester suitable for the UK it will show an error on a correctly wired Thai electrical system. The error will be 'Live and neutral reversed.'

For Thailand you look at a socket with the earth pin at the top then the hole under and to the left is live.

For UK if you look at a socket with the earth pin at the top then the hole under and to the right is live
