They could make building safety a moneymaker for the public. Offer cash awards for tips on violation of safety/security rules and regulation. Every tip that's confirmed by authorities will get you a decent sum of money.

The authorities can fine the establishment, and take some of that money to pay the person who reported the violation.

Everyone wins, except the violators. The general public has an incetive to look for violations, and owners of bars and other establishments have an incentive to be extremely strict about following safety rules and regulations.

There are many comments about what SHOULD be done. But Thailand is the Hub Of Apathy, and that means no-one does anything about anything unless it directly concerns them. And sometimes not even then. Mai Pen Rai. And as two Thai people have said to me, people are doing to die eventually anyway. That attitude certainly explains a lot.

You also need active Authorities to ensure the rules are obeyed and if not big fines and after a big fine and no changes. then SHUT it down. If that doesn't get through to the Dept. then nothing will and I guarantee there will be similar bars- entertainment venues in the near future and beyond will have multiple young deaths. Think of it as, "that young person could be my child".

I didn't write that such incidents are unique to Thailand. This is a forum about Thailand and a fire in Bangkok. Writing about what happens elsewhere is irrelevant to this site.

In the West, there is a reaction, and then a change is implemented. In Thailand, it's business as usual. There is no safety culture in Thailand.

Health and safety needs to be enforced in these places and serious action taken on the people not providing safety measures for the people using these premises

I had minor surgery which required an overnight stay in a private hospital.
At 11pm I couldn't sleep so decided to get some fresh air.

The corridors doors were chained and padlocked preventing any exit.

At the other end of the corridor I descended two flights of stairs to the ground floor emergency exit, which again was chained and padlocked.

There was no way to exit the building in the case of an emergency.

Security told me it was to avoid strangers walking in.
The fire exit doors had a push bar on the inside with no external means to open them.

The only entrance was through the main entrance which had security officers.
Why chain and padlock internal corridor doors?

They don't learn following one such disaster, how many more will it take!
