2 years a levels

1 year college

4 years university

None of it was worth doing!

I would have earned more running my dad's building company. Plus 7 years wages I missed.

"running my dad's building company"

An option most kids don't have.

Interesting though, with all your rugged individualist attitude were you really a nepo baby?

Born on third base? (As they say in the states).

The US needs programs where when a boy is 16 he decides on either the college route or an apprenticeship program.

The primary U.S. education system is outdated for today's world.

Off topic,

Yeah, I was, but as a rugged individualist (and Marxist) I wanted to do it by myself. Should have worked for daddy for 9 years, skipped all the education, then retired at age 25 (complete fail on my part).

Getting a bit defensive there, eh Britman?

If only you were as good at teaching as Chomper is at moral grandstanding all your pupils would have ended up at Oxford!

I wasn't a good teacher, but I wasn't a bad teacher either,

I worked in the schools that were so bad that most teachers refused to work in them. Many problem (and special needs) schools in the UK can't recruit teachers. And schools can't just expell troubled kids (there's huge fines for a school that tries that game).

And if there's no teacher available for a class, they have to be sent home. I'd get up to three local schools trying to call me for emergency work the same day.

Posters don't seem to understand how messed up education system in the UK has become. Nobody wants the job, there are no unemployed teachers that are prepared to work (good or bad).

PS.

I worked a lot in Oxford, my pupils were already there.

Trad School System is woefully out of date - probably better to have most specialise way before 16 esp if obviously not cut out for academia - I thought school was glorified daycare to enable tax slavery but these are the purposes of schooling:

Six purposes of schooling:

1. Adjustment. Fixed reaction to authority.

2. Integration. Conformity.

3. Directive. Social role.

4. Differentiating.

5. Selective. Access quality of kids

6. Propaedeutic. Trained to be custodians of all this.

A veteran secondary school teacher has argued that Britain cannot close the education gap for white working-class pupils without confronting a difficult truth: schools cannot succeed where support at home is missing.

Nailed it.

Just look at the results from the 'worst' schools, usually English coastal towns (where Brexit destroyed incomes).

The Chinese kids all excel....why? Same school, same teachers, same ethos.....but parents with high expectations and positive support for their kids.

I taught in UK state secondary schools for 25 years and saw exactly why white (working class) kids are failing.

It's just not worthwhile.

Maybe 1 in a 1000 will benefit from education after age 16, but those odds ain't great.

You're probably right if you just talking about a high school education, but if we're talking about a university education and with somebody who is smart enough to go into something like Structural Engineering, high-tech, the medical industry, or something like art restoration there's a lot of money to be made.

What a load of <deleted>.
How do you believe Brexit "destroyed income [specifically] in English coastal towns"?
French, Italians and Spanish are still able to visit the likes of Blackpool if they really want to.

Also, ever wondered why white (working class) kids are failing?
Could it be the amount of resources dedicated to ensure multiple language support and DEI/DIE eQuAL oUtcoMes for kids who arrive at various ages from low IQ 3rd world <deleted> hole countries?
Could that (2 tier schooling) have something to do with it?

Maybe actually visit England - for many government services you can select the langusuge you'd like to converse with the yookay state in so u could bring your wife and her kids from the previous - they'd be treated better than the white kids from your yookay divorce.

It might have a lot more to do with attitudes towards education.

But of course, I do accept, it’s always somebody else’s fault.

Sounds like the teacher despises the white working classes. An opinion widely held by largely leftist, middle class teachers. "How can you expect me to educate your poor, white, chavvy kids".

Yes, the teacher despises them, that is undoubtedly the case - so obvious. Maybe saying Wayne and Waynetta need to do better is based on truth? There are a lot of terrible parents out there.

Yep, usually leftists pushing cultural marxism and unlimited immigration - like yourself.

Very difficult to manage an ENGLISH school with a load of extra kids dumped in it from randonm 3rd world <deleted> holes like Ukraine, Afganistan, Pakistan, Congo etc etc etc- many of whom can't speak English.
All at the expanse of English Taxpayers.

Can u understand why thats a problem for the native students when resources meant for them are diverted for forejgners whove justr arrived with no ability to speak or write English - and sometimes with zero previous schooling at al?

This table of the last two years is illuminating. Only 59.7% of schoolkids in the UK have two white British parents, and that's falling.

Here we go again, blaming someone else.

It sucks when those foreign born kids who don’t speak English when they arrive, swiftly catch up then pass the kids who don’t value education.

How does that explain white working class kids not valuing education?

Children raised in single-mother households have less favorable outcomes compared to those raised in two-parent households.

Having no available father is also a deterrent, especially for girls but for both. Single father households are also better financially.

"schools cannot succeed where support at home is missing"

Jeez!! Talk about stating the bleed in obvious.......

The problem is that for several generations, in millions of British homes, that support has been missing, and many parents can't understand the concept of supporting their kids.

I teach science (online) to hundreds of young Chinese students. The attitude of their parents, especially their mums to study is absolute dedication - some will sit in on my classes to ensure their offspring are attentive, they request the lesson video to go over it with the child after the lesson, they clammer for me to send homework questions before the next lesson. When I taught in-class in Myanmar, it was the same parental attitude >> support their offspring because education is a means to better one's life.

I was never a teacher in the UK (I was a space scientist). As a young student at grammar school in Leicester, I found science rather boring, because the relationship between the text book topic and the 'real world' was never demonstrated. So in my second career as a teacher in south-east Asia, I try to close that gap. (Next week, we're making bombs using common kitchen ingredients lol!).

But I also understand that many kids would do far better in their life if they followed a vocational route (mechanic, plumber etc). Everyone's brains work differently. I studied hands-on electronics for 4 years at technical colleges, working for Radio Rentals and repairing TVs. That vocational background helped me immensely when I went on to higher, post-grad education.

How to solve the problem of parental lack of support? Sadly, in this modern world, many parents have lost the plot, happy (like their offspring) to watch Tik-Tok all day). A lost generation - NO - 2 or 3 lost generations....

While I agree with the general premise of the thread (that parents aren't supporting their kids), I think there are two things that need to be considered. First, many parents probably don't know how to be a teaching assistant at home - but that's no excuse for not taking an interest in what their kids are studying. Second, if a student is truly interested in school and studying, then he will excel on his own, and with the support of the teacher.

And only 5% of TV adverts feature a white family.

The Psy Op is in full effect over there. It's so obvious when you've been overseas and return. They're brainwashing the public.

TV shows are the same. Moral black cop hunts down immoral white degenerate.

Refer to Adolescence for a good example. Liberals were creaming themselves over it.

Further research reveals that over a fifth of British white families only have one parent, usually the mum.

In the UK, approximately \(22\%\) of White British families with dependent children are headed by a lone parent. Overall, there are about 3.2 million single-parent families in the UK, representing roughly 1.8 million single parents. Around \(90\%\) of these single-parent households are headed by mothers.

Could it be it's harder to focus on your children's education when you're running a household singlehandedly?

Take that up with the fathers who dumped their kids.

So do white working class kids from single parent families fair worse in school than white middle class kids from single parent families?

Do they fair worse than immigrant kids from single parent families?

..and then there is the issue of 4 million unemployed youth

I read somewhere the other day that the average university student's writing is simiar to that of a ten year old. I forget what country..

No time to reply today, CH, but hazarding a guess, I would say middle class kids from white single parent families would fare better than white working class kids, they go to better schools and parents have higher expectations.

Regarding immigrant children, Afro Carribbean families have highest number of single parent families ( guessing here!).

Will get back to you on Monday about this.
