astral
get a note from a language school in bkk that says i volunteer or might work there or something like thatand then get a long stay visa, maybe b, from the usa A "note" will not suffice. It needs to be a firm offer of employment. You will then get a single entry B visa. To extend that in Thailand you will need a work permit, which will entail showing your degree and TEFL certificates........ i could apply for a retirement visa in the usa but still weighing all the options so i can come back and still look for work This is by far your best option, assuming you are over 50. Forget about working, and enjoy life.
expatwannabe
If you pay for a TEFL course from Text-And-Talk, they'll arrange to get you a one-year (90-days at a time) Non-Imm B visa. IMHO, it's worth the cost of the course by itself. FYI, they go through the Dallas Consulate. Edited August 31, 2007 by expatwannabe
