The moral of this story might be that the biggest danger to your own security is your mouth!

Rule #1, when in Pattaya. Avoid unknown foreigners, do not seek acquaintances or friendship from foreigners

I don't think you understand how crypto works, and how it is purposely outside of national regulation.

Maybe the amount is considered to be 'considerable'?

Why else would they take such an odd amount. Are you still wet behind the ears?

Defo a bit moist behind the ears (and arm pits/arse crack/nut sack etc etc) , been out in the welding cells for the past hour.

Not at all. Instead show complete strangers that you carry 9 thousand quid in your pocket, just to spice up your evening.

Show 'em ya wad!

"Police seized both suspects' phones for examination and to trace the transactions. Sudej said investigators believe it was an isolated case, rather than a criminal network targeting tourists for cryptocurrency."

What does Police Lieutenant Colonel Sudej Imjai mean by that "it was an isolated instance"? Is he implying that they have evidence that the GBP9,782 was transferred to one of the phones or both. With the cctv footage, it should be a close and shut case. The suspects said that nothig happened but by the miracle of digital technology the money found it's way into their mobile phones (smile).

I suspect he is saying that it was a one off heist on an impulse rather than a syndicate specializing in crypto heists as a profession.

But I’m just reading between the lines of what he said.

I imagine that they have at least some evidence, since they have arrest warrants for both suspects.

There's no bank involved with a crypto transaction if it's not converted to fiat currency. It's decentralised as long as it runs on the blockchain.

Couple of low-life deadbeats. Deport them--and blackball them while you're at it.

Hmmmm, I don't know, maybe he just lost the bet over England winning the world cup ...! And had to pay up...?

Criminals taking people to their own condo and rub them at knife point, then sit there wait until police come to catch them is way too stupid and far fetched...!!! ?

If I were the two guys, just say he lost the bet and had to pay his debt..., no rubbery involved...😉😎

The British government tracks crypto transactions?

The Brit was lying about his crypto.

Timberlake had previously shown the suspects his cryptocurrency portfolio and discussed trading with them, making them aware, by telling them, that he held digital assets of considerable value.

That's obviously not a very smart thing to do. This kind of thing has been reported before, brag about your crypto with the wrong crowd and they may give you an "incentive" to transfer it to them.

What authority or oversight do UK banking authorities have over crypto transactions in Thailand?

Depends. Many crypto exchange accounts are tied directly to a person's bank account now.

Lesson learned , always dress down, never wear expensive bling. and never share financial information. He learned a good lesson young.

Ah, that clears it all up.

Once I was hanging with a buddy and we came across a shop selling high-priced bags. Yeah, a lot of glitz as well, where you're paying for the logo. But some very nice, well-made leather bags. I told him that even if I was willing to spend US$500+ on a travel bag I wouldn't because there will be people trying to steal it just for the bag itself, to hell with the contents. He gave me the dumbest look, the idea made no sense to him at all.

Here is one. There are more.

UK Bank Transfers: UK banking authorities enforce stringent anti-money laundering (AML) controls. Consequently, UK-regulated banks can—and frequently do—restrict, delay, or block sterling transfers made by UK residents to overseas or Thai crypto platforms.

No, that's Rule 2.

Rule 1 is: Do not seek acquaintances or friendship from Thai bar girls. 😂

You are talking about transferring GBP's to a crypto coin exchange.

In this case, it was from one crypto wallet to another crypto wallet. This means the transaction was completely outside the UK banking system.

Crypto to Crypto - zero.

People have more than one crypto wallet. In fact, many crypto holders have several wallets.

He may have had a "cold wallet" stored at another location.

To make a long story short for you, say you had 10,000 baht in your pocket and was robbed on the street at knife point, but you had 1 million baht in your safe at home which was not stolen for the armed robbers.

A well publicized article from the UK of a guy who lost a cold wallet, and this wallet did have considerable value in it. Around 600 million GBP.

I responded to this specific question: “What authority or oversight do UK banking authorities have over crypto transactions in Thailand?” I think originally posted by @Liverpool Lou . What I posted in response to this question is accurate, but you make a fair point as well.

I also responded to his post, and the answer is, "zero oversight."

UK bank to a cryto coin exchange has some oversight.

Crypto wallet to another crypto wallet, zero oversight.
