Why I feel sorry for poor James Bond

Featured Replies

The first 2 movies, Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace were excellent. Looked like a proper bond. Then they changed to digital film which has no grain and polished Netflix look. Skyfall was ridiculous and stupid and everything after that.

Skyfall certainly was ridiculous to watch, and oddly the highest grossing one of all. Which again goes to show that popular acclaim is the opposite of a quality stamp.

We are meant to believe that someone in a high security see through cell can hack into MI6's computer system from there unnoticed. With no laptop. Quite interesting how Javier managed that. To hack into MI6 without a laptop.

And Skyfall is the most ridiculous of all the Bond songs. Adele doing her best to do a Shirley Bassey impersonation, yet the song sounds as stupid as can be.

When it "cruuuuumbleeeess"....

How can the sky "crumble"??? It's not a Digestive biscuit...Jesus.

It's really a bizarre and strange experience watching these Bond movies. The action scenes are excellent. The plot lines are intricate and elaborate. The acting is not bad. And yet, and yet...you simply can't enjoy these movies. As someone said above the age old formula is same same, and then there's the PC cudgel being swung relentlessly, the shameless product placement. You just feel like you're being manipulated watching these films. Even the best stunts and great acting can't paper past that. Having the Bond girls supposedly now become killer machines and beat up and kill men non-stop doesn't help believability.

I just can't take Bond seriously anymore.

Have they finally figured out who the new 007 will be? If not, they still have a chance to salvage the brand.

Maybe that's why Daniel Craig stopped doing Bond? He said he wanted at least a Vivo X300 and they told him "No, mate, Nokia is paying the big bucks, you'll be using a Nokia".

Who'd want to be a James Bond with a Nokia phone? That's like being a Tennis ace with a wooden Dunlop. Come on. It's 2026.

Weren't the films in question made some years ago though?

Ahhhh but that Nokia phone has a built in laser and bunker busters.

I was about to say his is a Special 'Q' Edition. It's really camouflaged to look like a Nokia to make it look obsolete and confuse everyone including Cameroni..

It's not looking good. Callum Turner is supposedly the front runner. He'd be the first "Boy-Bond".

What happened to the Conneries, Moores nobody of that calibre around anymore?

Yah, but even in 2021 Bond is still running around with a Nokia.

So, as you no doubt know, Netflix has released a slew of the Daniel Craig Bond movies. Obviously I could tell immediately back when Craig first came out that he'd be the worst Bond there ever was,

Worse than George Lazenby? That takes some doing.

I don't really count Lazenby as a real Bond. He was an experiment that didn't work out.

Cruel, but necessary comment 😁

I loved Judi Dench as M. For me, she lent some necessary gravitas to the films and I wish she had been in more of them--the scenes she is in are some of the best and most enjoyable in Craig's Bond series and I thought the two of them played well off each other.

I don't see any gravitas with Dench. I see a pudgy middle aged woman who does not look like a politician in a million years. She's too Dame Judi Dench, it's like casting Beyonce, you can't get past who it really is. I don't think she works as a head of MI6. But then almost nothing about these films works. The songs are cringe, the bad guys are not convincing, the plot is ludicrous, the sex scenes don't work as Craig is such a cold fish. Only the stunts and the acting are passable. You really want to like a Bond movie, but it's so hard with these Craig Bonds.

I spent two years 2006 and 2007 working right next the MI6 building in Vauxhall. On the train it was guess the spy. Who was getting off at Vauxhall then turning into the MI6 building. Non of them looked like they would shoot first and ask questions later. Just a bunch of office workers.

Well your mistake clearly was you had to check for the Nokia phone.

Dead give away.
