Do you agree that Thailand is making it harder for foreigners?

No, actually I think it's easier than when I arrived, 2000. Better roads, better infrastructure, better & cheaper phone & internet options. More visa options, more English spoken & signag

Unfortunately (IMHO), Thailand regards the value of a foreigner by the size of their wallet, and not by the size of their contribution to Thai society. It's for this reason that I'm considered a 'Cheap Charlie', because I prefer to live modestly and not to throw my money around on beer and bargirls :)

Yes, to the value of the foreigner by the person's financial value, but is it really that different than other countries and cultures? It is just more pronounced and obvious in Asia. The expression "doctors and engineers" is used to dismiss the migrants in the west as low value (not that I disagree).

Which of the many specific points in the video based on your experience do you consider to be inaccurate.

For example, I guess you're saying that you own real estate based on the previously lawyer approved nominee system. There has in fact been a massive crackdown. So the crackdown (in your experience) hasn't hit you as yet?

No, I don't own real estste so any crackdown hasn't made it harder for me.

Ditto, I also own nothing, except an empty bank account, (every 3rd or 4th month), and the wife can easily justify any purchase or possession in her name.

Only laws I break are traffic & drone laws, and apparently very discreet when doing, as can't remember last time I got a citation. shh

I pray they make it very, very hard for those losers who come here with no money, no goals, no plans and out looking for trouble getting juiced up on roids and drugs. They are making life hard for regular folks who want to visit here and enjoy this country. I want them to verify that you have enough money for your vacation in this country and have plans to leave if you are not retired or working here.

So you're arguing the opposite then?

Thailand is not making it hard enough for foreigners?

You are misreading that: It says from 1998 to 2014 or a total of 16 years of consecutive stay on retirement. So if updated it could be since 2010.

The grandfather clause was established in October 1998, and hasn't been modified since, only reiterated in various ministerial amendments over the years. As of now anyone qualifying would need to have had 28 years of unbroken extensions. And given the pre-1998 level of 200k was associated with a minimum retirement age of 60, anyone in this position would now be at least 88 years old.

I watched your silly vid, and my mind hasn't changed at all, and simple enforces everything I talked about on here, viewed as changes.

They are not, simply enforcement, which he admits, of rules & laws on the books before any of us arrived.

All due to the constant abuse of, lax enforcement in the past. Som nam na.

So, come to TH, do things legally, follow the rules you know are in place before arriving, and nothing will be hard or difficult, and you'll enjoy your retiremenst just as myself and 1000s others have.

DO PLAN IT & COME WITH ENOUGH MONEY or INSURANCE.

25+ yrs of hearing the same BS, doom & gloom, what if scenarios, that never materialize. New enforcements, all which I, as legal, responsible expat welcome, and wish it was more widespread and even stricter enforced than already practiced.

If you here legally ... you shouldn't have any worries.

Here are all his points, that he states are changes, they aren't, and he admits as much. Some have nothing to do with TH and simply private businesses increasing cost (hosp & health ins):

1.retirement (all) visa enforced (less scamming allowed)

2. 60 day to 30 day (changes all the time)

Up from 15 days of the past, not mentioned of course

3. enforced airline bording rules (good thing)

... no facts to back it up

4. visa revoked in the 1000s

... no facts to back it up

5. ED visa ... verified & no longer abused (about time)

6. removed blocks to fight deportation, (good thing)

7. Enforced condo 49% rule due to abuse of

8. land ownership due to nominee/fake businesses

9. False info about taxation changes

admits nothing changed, but simply enforced

even though not even done yet

10. False claim of tax proposals & "what if future" 🤣

11. Enforcement of banking rules (good thing)

12. Private hospital (voluntary yse) higher cost,

  1. no mandatory health ins for expats (strange complaint)

but people complain health ins. required 0-A visa ???

14. private health ins expensive & hard to get

nothing to do with TH, just business ensuring profit

15. False statement stating public hosp and services

not available to expats same as Thais

16. Expat poor financial planning for health issues

17. Imm not as nice, and verify docs now verified (good thing)

18. admits bad attitude towards foreigners hard to prove

18. Thais controlling false info (good thing)

... HE SHOULD BE CONCERNED ...

20. No real PR, false, but few want or care anyway

THAT'S WHY WE DON'T WASTE OUR TIME WATCHING YOUR SILLY VIDS

@Jingthing

Notice he makes the same vids about people making bad decisions when moving to the Philippines 🤣

I wonder where he lives, or if he's ever been to TH or PI.

Edit: Questioned answered ... cheesy

You want to know about TH, talk to and listen to people that live here, long term. Facts, not 'doom & gloom' or 'what if' scenarios. Some YT'ers:

Chris 'Retired working for you'

Paddy Doyle

Mickey Scotch

Mark Weins

Ask me (no need, I'm an open book) or any of the other long term expat. Even ask the haters, that live here, because it must be a good choice to retire ... THEY ARE STILL HERE

Get a clue.

It's clear very few people replying to this have even watched it once.

They're answering the question as if it's only about themselves.

That is not the topic here.

It's about the OVERALL situation and changes towards foreigners.

That guy claims he lived in Thailand for 20 years.

Maybe he lost everything in a failed marriage and now moved back home and is holding a grudge against the entire country.

Not sure why he would also be attacking the Philippines.

AI is getting so sophisticated now. He could be an AI bot. He literally wrote "Not an AI Voice" on one his video titles. What accent is that? Where is he from? He dresses weird. I think always a black shirt with that baseball cap, but different colored baseball caps. He has the whole rainbow of baseball caps.

Some retirees do a lot better than others, though.

Depends on your wallet and your choices.

If you don't marry well, buy property, and it ends badly, that could degrade your retirement.

Some people do a lot better than others.

The guys who don't do well , maybe you don't hear about them because they're drowning their sorrows in a bar or left.

If you are doing well, there's no reason to leave.

He presents mostly objective facts which he does synthesize into more subjective opinions

But you cheaply focus on ad hominem attacks perhaps because you dislike his message.

Stay classy.

They may be facts, but he is ONLY focusing on the negatives to make it more dramatic.

If you move back home, you have different problems to deal with.

Pick your poison.

The guy in the video is just amplifying minor stuff, being pulled aside by an IO asking for more details, so what, nothing to worry about unless you ain’t got it together. Spooking off nominees, so what, if it’s a legal venture then nothing to worry about. 60-30 day , so what, it was a 30 day before. On and on, the guy in the video is just propagating hysterics to gain attention.

This isn't about moving back home.

Also he's not suggesting anyone move from Thailand.

He says that clearly.

He does want people to be clear headed about what place foreigners have in Thai society though and not live in with fantasy delusions.

My advice for you was objective and you rejected it therefore I will only be replying to you with ad nominee attacks. You bring it upon yourself

Some points may be minor.
Some are clearly major.

He's not promoting hysteria.

He's clear that he's not telling anyone to leave.

Thailand regards the value of a foreigner by the size of their wallet,

Some seem so consumed by their dislike of Thailand that they've developed a remarkable case of selective amnesia when it comes to their own country's visa policies.

An unfortunate way to spend the twilight years.

He makes issues that are actually non issues for any law abiding resident or visitor, th is easy for anyone who can navigate it’s simplicity, if not then it’s on them and not on the government for tightening up/enforcing policies.

Irrelevant about where he is located. Did I get anything wrong with my 'critique' of his vid. Don't deflect where he may or may not live.

Everything he points out, is either ...

... out of TH control (health ins available or ins cost)

... simple enforcement of long established rules & laws

... wrong decision of expats and poor planning of retirement

... caught abusing the system and lax enforcement of the past

... a few what ifs, with no basis, other opinions, unverified

NO CHANGES, just enforcement of rules that have been abused for decades.

Other words, same BS we heard from you & the haters over & over, that none of us that follow the rules, and planned our retirement experience.

No hardships created by our own better choices, basically.

One must live with your choices

I answered accordingly.

So he states he has lived in TH for 20 yrs, someone pointed out.

Which in my reality means ...

... he enjoys it just as much as the rest of us

... has no problem conforming and complying to the rules, he compains about

... decided it was the best option and choice for his living in retirement

... another hater who loves it so much, he refuses to leave coffee1

But he points out some facts (all should know), faulsehoods, and what ifs, for profit.

Just maybe, he's so negative at times (not that I would ever do this), points out how crappy everthing is, so more don't come to TH, to disturb his peaceful and quiet enjoyment of all things Thai. shh

Well one argument he made in one of his videos was that the cost of living has gone up substantially in the past 20 years.

So 20 years ago, it made more sense to comply with the rules, but with the current cost of living the cost/rules ratio is no longer a good deal.

It's debatable I guess. I wasn't here 20 years ago.

Actually, I remeber telling buds back in USA, I was living on $500 a month. At the time, less than 20k THB, as USD was getting 40-45 to $1 the first couple years here. Since owning home, no mortgage, rent, health ins, and only driving a MB. Cheap Charlie to the max.

I can easily live on 20k THB a month now, but, it took a bit more money invested; solar & BEV, so no eletric or petrol bill, even water bill if only using rain water, and we actually collect enough, if not having the gardens. Eliminating the bills I had back then, and counters the exchange rate now.

30k a month, is more comfy, and better food, but 20k would be quite easy, and still comfy. Just not a lot of O&A, as a bit chunk of our budget. Average 1000 baht a night just for hotels, a couple months of the year. That seems to be going up every new outing, and think 1500 will be the new average. As peeking last night, and this is off season ... WTF cheesy

Well, what about hospital / healthcare costs. Maybe they have gone up a lot since 20 years ago.

Da Nang is very, very nice, very liveable, great food and cheap beer ... but how would you feel about border runs every 90 days?

And if - when - the VN govt pulls the rug on that?

I have thought about this.

I am a younger retired expat, so mobility is not an issue, at this stage.

Boarder runs are no problem. One boarder run would be the Singapore F1, which I go to anyway. Another boarder run would be to Pattaya to visit friends. I would look for a festival, sporting event, concert etc and turn that into a boarder run. Eg. Asia Cup football, World Cup qualifiers, MotoGP Buriram etc. I'm sure I would be able to line up a boarder run to coincide with something of interest.

I have a couple of ex Thailand friends in Vietnam. They have told me Vietnam does not have the "back to back" visa rule like Thailand does. So, you can live in Vietnam on tourist visas, at this stage.

If they were to pull the rug on back to back visas, I would look at how long they require you to be outside for, and then make a plan. It could be 3 months Vietnam, 1 month Thailand, then back to Vietnam for 3 months, and so on, for example.

Can you imagine what would happen to Thailand if / when Vietnam introduce a retirement visa similar to Thailand? The condo market would crash here. Thailand would practically lose a whole generation of retiree moving here. Existing retirees would not be replaced.
