The building I'm staying in did make a huge difference. When I first arrived I stayed in a place called Rimh@d in Jomtein. All I needed is a small room, but it was a mistake because I did not care for the people around there. Even then I was avoiding most other residents, but they could not be avoided altogether and one can't sit in their room all day. Kind of a lower income, scrungy clientele that I did not have much in common with (or at least did not want to perceive myself as having anything in common).I moved to a much better building and the residents are Ok, but still not people I would consider homies, but they are somewhat cultured and more educated. The buildings seem to attract a particular type of resident that aligns with the vibe with the setting which is good. That takeaway for anyone moving in is that the building matters. Even if you are happy in a cheap small room you can't get away from the people, so it won't be ideal. It's better to get a place that suits you better. On a wider scale, it's kind of the same thing with my move. I can get an equivalent living space here for cheaper, but it's never going to be the same as back home because the general environment and people will never be the same. Even with the gated entry and gardens, or on a really high floor, you can't escape the surroundings you may not like. You still get a lot of pleebs you may not want to interact with, while such interactions become unavoidable even if you're really good at not engaging.Go to Prachuap. Try Hua Hin, Pranburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan and others. Otherwise Chiang Mai or Rai.Pattaya is a cesspit. It ranks in my worst 10 Thai cities.

I can't see much other reason to be living in the central area. Maybe some of them have weird fetishes that are not catered to in other areas. I was talking to some other guys in the gym here and they were Ok, but I could not help wondering why they were in this location long term or on annual leases. They were probably thinking the same about me. Some of them seemed a bit strange like it could be a sex issue of some kind, like a strange fetish for a particular age lady, or just something way out there. Edited August 10Aug 10 by Freebird13

You can rent a 4 bedroom house in Prachuap 100m from the beach for 20,000 baht a month. Or a beach bungalow for 10,000 baht.No sex addicts. No drunks. No white trash.

Best start with hotel then look around. Hua Hin has nightlife and plenty of farangs. The smaller towns are much quieter. Some gyms are 50/60 baht here. Motorbike 200/250 baht. Monthly rates 4500.

Don't you find it strange that a bunch of guys are hanging out in the pool regularly with no women in sight?Do guys where you are from do that normally? Where I'm from it seems gay, or something akin to that, or a closet thing under a cloak of just hanging out or being around the pool area. Edited August 13Aug 13 by Freebird13
