If you prefer Revolut's interface over Wise, you do not need to risk using a UK address. Revolut officially operates in Thailand and allows you to register legally using your real Thai residential address.

By registering legally in Thailand, you eliminate the risk of a sudden account freeze, and Revolut will mail the physical debit card directly to your Thai home. You can still link your UK bank account to transfer your British pounds onto the card.

Correct, as far as Revolut goes. Can't say about Wise, I don't use them.

My only gripe about Revolut, is not being able to use a QR code. I have tried a few times in various places, but it refuses the payment, so don't bother now. Anyone got a comment?

Revolut doesn’t support Prompt Pay QR codes so you’ll need a 3rd party app like Moreta to bridge the gap.

I’ve no experience of using them as I tend to pay from my Revolut account when outside of Thailand & use local bank when here.

Thanks for the reply. As said, no QR code payments, but it is no hardship. I use the Revolut card for some purchases, but there is always the local bank card as back up.

I subsequently double-checked my previous comment regarding Revolut not being available to those with Thai addresses by downloading their app and starting afresh with the registration process. However, I fell at the first fence when I tried to enter my Thai mobile number in response to an initial prompt for a mobile number - only to discover that the Thailand +66 prefix was one of the very few that was not listed in the drop-down menu, even though the Revolut list does include prefixes for several countries I'd never heard of before located elsewhere on this great planet of ours!

I can therefore only assume that those on here with Revolut accounts have been able to open these on the basis of home country mobile numbers.

Then you must have had a Swift transfer with Revolut, obviously. Depends on country and bank. Mine has never gone through the Swift system.

I did my own comparison, and Revolut came out cheapest for me.

Your statement was this (comparison between Wise and Revolut) :

"Never have been no matter what method." (Cheaper than Wise)

I proved you wrong. My total fees from both receiving bank in Thailand, and Revolut, have been in the area of 25-50 baht, depending on amount, with mainly the same FX exchange rate as Wise.

That made it cheaper than Wise for my transfers.

As I said, it depends on country, bank and membership. And of course if Revolut in case have the local corridor, without Swift involvement (still as an international transfer).

As explained in this thread already.

And btw, I have yet to see anyone claiming Western Union even near "the best". Only at speed. They're a lot more expensive to use, because of their poor FX exchange rate.

Instead of bickering, without hard evidence, why do the two of you not give more details (obviously not personally identifiable details) of countries of transfer origin, bank account type, Wise/Revolute account type and registered address, currency, day and time of transaction, reason for transfer etc so that a proper comparison can be carried out!

Not only would it hopefully stop the squabbles, but it would help all the rest of us.
