They will be behind reception likely, or the pool bar. Finding someone who gives a fxck is the hard part!

No. How dare you!
I'm one of those that he bundles as being "sad"and "depressed" in any reply to a post where his fantasy is not lived by others: I live rurally, am single, and I am a man who used to vacation here with my wife and kids for five years until the divorce. A bit over year later I moved here after spending a few of months seeing if Phuket was enjoyable for more than a couple of weeks at a time. For me, it wasn't.

So I looked into KK, which I also didn't like, and then settled on here. In "The Bowels" of Phetchabun.

Unlike RR, I haven't been to every province "three times". But I did travel quite extensively in a car I bought in late 2017, until The Plague (which stopped a lot of non-essential travel of and on for a while as you may know) and have only recently (March) driven to Chiang Rai, Sukhothai Bueng Kan, and Nakhon Phanom for the first time.
I have friends: Brits, Aussies, and Swedes all over the place but the nearest is in Pattaya - five hours away while Chiang Mai is closer to eight. As well as Kalasin, Sakon Nakhon, Phuket, Krabi.

When I go to places like Phuket or Pattaya, I take full advantage of "foreign food" restaurants. And Pattaya Beach Road is where I buy my shirts from each year. A nice Nepalese man out the back without a tax issue...

Another member asked if would consider myself a recluse and to some extent I am but it works for me. I am ridiculously social but just choose when and where I choose to be.

Yet another member DMed me and pretty much asked why, since Ive been a member since 2012, I HAD only posted 160(?) times and 20 of those were in the last two weeks and why did I suddently start posting'. An interesting question. Originally, I joined Thai Visa for ideas for where the wife and I could go for holidays and where not to, and travel tips. Then in 2015, I looked up visa issues. Then I stayed pretty much silent.
The incessant arguments about who speaks Thai better, who knows tourist sites better, as if it's a competition, and all the puerile name-calling that hijack threads, weird topics, and blatant attention-seeking. None of it was educational or entertaining.

Then I got bitten by a dog and I posted about the process I went through for rabies and tetanus injections at the district public hospital as - after a scan to see if the subject had been posted recently - there had been recent comments online (BP, another bastion of tools commenting on stuff of which they know nothing) about pricing in hospitals. I put ASEAN Now in my startup tabs to follow any updates or comments on my rabies post and it's stayed there ever since.

I have been in Pattaya now a few days and am ready to go home !!

I have been in such a panic and anxiety

I have lost my glasses and can't see properly without them , I have had to lodge complaint with the hotel I am staying at .

I took my glasses in my pocket to the hotel swimming pool , when I got there they were missing, it seems I may have lost them on the way waking there or the way back to my room.

I told these silly people via the room phone I had lost my glasses where they proceed to bring to my room two drinking glasses !!.

I have been asking the hotel reception and management who I must say haven't been helpful but that's another story I will go I to later when my local member of Parliament names them in Parliament

My question is , I have absolutely no idea on how to get a new pair here in Pattaya

Are eye sight tests free ?

How long does it take to get the new spectacles ?

I don't know where to start

My local MP of Parliament in Australia has had his secretary send me a optometrist list , but who knows where to start ?

I have been in such an awful state

Omg, yet another whinging ozzie. Go back home.

Get a grip. Nothing to panic about. There are many opticians in Pattaya.

If you can't see then you'll just have to track down pu$$y by scent.

As for finding decent glasses..... not so easy. Anyone recommend a good shop?

He'll be fine, he has his local member (cough), the CEO of AirBnB, and the Aussie PM's office on speed-dial.

In all seriousness, he's best left alone and/or ignored. For his own benefit. I honestly believe he thinks mimicking tools' posts on this forum to get engagement, he'll be accepted.

At some level that could be true, but volatility in someone that disassociated from interpersonal skills walking the streets with that false level of social "normality" can be dangerous. Most probably to himself from an inappropriate engagement where he just confronts someone on Soi Buakhao, even if he's only a slight danger to others due to his supposed age.

Sure, there are trolls on here, self-absorbed philanderers, and out-of-touch knobs, race-baiters, and holier-than-thou types. GG isn't one.

He doesn't understand.

Population approx. 750 to 1Million.

My first visit to Pattaya was about 38 years ago, it was then a very small fishing village, population around 200.

The road was tarred frountil 40 km from Pattaya, no divisions in the centre of the road and no markings on the road, barely wide enough for 2 opposite direction lanes.

The last approx 30km was just dirt/dust. if rain was forecast most travelers aborted the travel because of deep mud and cars / trucks getting bogged.

I would love to go to the rural areas of Thailand

I once went out to the country in Australia with a friend who invited me , 7 hours drive out of Sydney and we seen nothing but poor dead animals on the side of the road !!

I called the local police who one ageing police officer arrived wearing a slouch hat with a angry attitude and when I told him about the poor animals on the side of the road dead he got angry with us and told us to go back to the City !!

Never again will I go into rural areas in Australia, it looks very scary

This may not help to find them but may help not to loose them for others. I purchased via Lazada COD one on those bands with both sides fixed to the glasses that enable to hang the glasses around my neck when not in use. It avoids leaving them some place and forgetting.

Great, glad it helps. But watch the length of the band as many are short in length and do not hang properly around the neck. You need to choose a model that is long enough or else it won't be able to hang around the neck,

You are not alone in only needing specs for long(ish) distance.

I read fine without, I got some special prescription "computer glasses" which live with my PC, and my "going out" glasses. I have at least 3 pairs of the going out ones, a pair of prescription sunnies which are my normal wear and a regular pair in each vehicle.

And I still manage to end up somewhere half blind!

Madam did give me one of her neck straps, but it's bright pink and features Hello Kitty prominently!

38 years ago? You sure?

I first set foot in Pattaya 48 years ago in 1978, taking the bus from Ekamai to the Regent Marina in north Pattaya. Highway 3 was dual carriageway all the way except where it passed through Chonburi town and 2-way past Sri Racha. Second road was partially dirt, Buakhao was in the countryside and Third road didn't exist yet.

No, I reckon there's some ex-US military that were based down by Sattahip that can make the true "sleepy fishing village" claim.

Have you considered laser eye surgery, it will sort out 2 problems for you- 1 to correct your vision and 1 to overcome you not finding your glasses , it also gives an added benefit of having something else to waste your time on writing about.

Weird as Nirun is close to all the action.

It s interesting you mention roadkill. I was in a pub - nothing strange in that - where two Australians were talking about how much roadkill there is in Tasmania in comparison to the lack of roadkill on the side of highways in Victoria. The reasoning, apparently, is that the highway in Victoria to New South Wales is cleared for miles on each side for farming, leaving nothing for wildlife to life on, while Tasmania's only major highway has tress and brush right up to the hard shoulder, allowing animals to live in very dangerous areas.
I also learned that hitting a wombat at 100 will rip the front end of your car off while it walks away. Allegedly.
I'd hate to think what would happen if you hit a big kangaroo.
