I don't see it as a competition. I don't mind sharing the platform with others who have the ability to let things go and return to 'normal'.

Erm... so now you have seen it happen. But just by a wolf in sheep's clothing? 😊 It seems that we are splitting hairs now.

Remember that the OP is somewhat 'tongue-in-cheek'.

The OP is tongue-in-cheek, but the replies are not. It taps into the deeply ingrained stereotype that the average Thai woman has some kind of superpower.

I think this stereotype endures and is blown out of proportion because it is told by people to whom it didn't happen and therefore it is flattering in a way, I guess, to be one of the "smart ones" who managed to avoid those purported pitfalls (when all they are really doing is leading a normal life).

Bloody hell, you've got her all worked out, ain't ya?

No tattoos, soft spoken, educated, runs a business, plays the long game, knows exactly how wealthy farangs think, knows they'll be too embarrassed to admit they've been stitched up, and apparently has the cold intelligence of a serial killer.

Do you actually know this minger, mate, or have you been sat there wordsmithing the story?

You make her sound like Thailand's answer to Hannibal Lecter. And naturally, you're the one and only geezer who's sussed the whole game out?

Sorry, but I'm calling cobblers on this one. Either you've got an extraordinary amount of inside information about a supposedly secretive con woman, and no obvious reason why you would, or you've got quite the imagination and have added a fair few porkies to the story.

I'm guessing the latter.

I haven't even told half the story mate. I once met one of her boyfriends, a nice enough guy, he obviously thought he'd found himself "a good one" (c.f. aforementioned checklist). He may very well have been an AN member lecturing others on what to look for in a Thai woman… He couldn't speak a word of Thai though, and relied on her to do the interpreting – smart within his own ecosystem, not so much in Thailand.

The brilliance of her MO is that it isn't illegal, a gift is a gift…

I remember reading about those kinds of cases, some time back.

People crying out loud that their ex won't agree to sell the house in order to split the increased equity

If they are married, then the Thai courts will force the sale and split it 50/50, ex-wife has no say.

Anyone buying a house in their girlfriend's name without being married should know from the get-go that it is not theirs and never will be.

I fully understand the laws here. If the house is considered marital property, both contributed in some way, it will be split 50/50. If the foreign spouse paid 100% for the house and prove it by bank transfers from overseas and build receipts, which I did, they are entitled to reimbursement from the Thai spouse by Thai law, which the court has to follow. In our divorce, she tried to get the house, as my ex in Texas did, and couldn't because I paid that 100%.

If a Thai court deviates from established legal principles or statutory interpretations regarding a property funded by a foreigner, the primary remedy is to file an appeal to the Court of Appeal or the Supreme Court pointing out errors of law or procedure. Worst case scenario the court has to divide all assets 50/50. I could also sell the house myself, which the court can also allow. Court’s holding. The Supreme Court allowed the husband to claim reimbursement of his proven personal funds. The administrative “waiver letter” cannot override section 1474 (classification of property acquired during marriage) or section 1476 (management rules). Evidence (bank remittance slips) matched the price, so reimbursement was ordered.

If you're dealing with a middle class woman from a stable family or from a woman from a wealthy family, it's a very different story. But most of the women we are exposed to come from families that are not well established, and families that are not financially secure,

Generally speaking that's true. But I know several western guys married to Thai women who come from business-class families. Some are divorced and have kids from a marriage with a Thai guy from a family with some money. A few have been together with their western guy for many years. Also, these days - at least in Bangkok - it's not unusual at all to see a female office worker or semi professional Thai dating western guys. Some prefer it to Thai guys. Helps them hone their English, maybe travel with them.

You often attempt to portray yourself as above the affray/the only adult in the room, when in fact you are an integral part of it.

That fallacy has been exposed.

European women have forgotten how to "tickle a mans balls", this in combination with a dazzeling smile of a Thai women is enough that seasoned Farang exclaims "Eureka, I am living again".

That's all. Further scientific studies are not necessary.

As usual excellent points. Indeed when the Oxytocin kicks it in it impairs your brain. It is documented and proven. Nobody thinks rationally when they love someone. Quite right.

This is why men need to be so wary of the woman who is accomplished in creating this fantasy of love in a man. And some women excel at this. They fake love, and make you fall in love. Because they know, if they succeed in making you fall in love, she can control you, you are like putty in her hand.

It is very dangerous to be a man.

On the other hand — if you can afford it — as long as she plays the role to an academic award, it's a really nice feeling for a man. There might be a good explanation why wealthy men can manage to live with young attractive women...😄

When I began to mingle with young Thai ladies, I had already heard lots of horror-stories; and enough to keep part of my brain still working, and especially working to count "invested" funds. My view was as above — not that I'm in the wealthy group, I'm very far from — so, same-same but different. As long as the financial burden was acceptable, and the role was played to something like an Oscar-award, I would be happy — and that is what matters...👍 — "the purpose of our lives is to be happy"...😊

Exactly right. The payoff for the adorer is that he, or she, gets to experience in full this ecstasy of love. If she plays the part well, you wouldn't even know it's an act. As you say, the purpose of life is to be joyful and happy. The Dalai Lama said the same.

I'm thinking there are plenty of Euro men who's balls are being tickled right this moment, because they learned to listen to their women and give them the attention they deserve before and after tickling those balls. That they'll do it here for money isn't much to brag about, as it's just a purchase.Of course a wife or real girlfriend here will also please you, especially if you are also listening to and appreciating their existence.

50sqm, not small for Bangkok or even any large European city for that matter. It's always a balance. If you want to be awoken by roosters and drunks in CM, smoke in the air, 45C heat, everything is in some state of disrepair and breakdown..that's CM. Me, I'm living 250 m from a brand new Subway with an open view.

What do you perceive as love, Isme?

When the girl agrees to go Dutch at every restaurant and never asks for a penny more?

If you can't pay for a woman's company in Thailand your relationship is going nowhere... unless she's unattractive and or desperate to get married - she's playing a long game.

Attractive women have options

I could never see myself asking a woman to pay here in Thailand for even a coffee date. Thai's make such scant wages as well

You have to be a really <deleted>ty person to ask a woman out to restaurant and then ask her to pay half. That's total red flag for her...this isn't the west. Food is cheap.

You’ll see a well to do foreigner in Thailand who spent forty years building a career and making enough good decisions to finally retire comfortably. Then six months after meeting a "local" girl on his first trip to Siam, he’s taking life advice from someone whose biggest qualification is knowing how to keep him permanently off balance.

How the hell does that happen?

Most of these blokes aren’t stupid. Yet somehow they end up following her around like a buffalo that wandered off into the wrong rice field and now can’t find its way back out.

The education gap alone should make the whole thing impossible. One person has decades of life experience and a career behind him. The other often barely scraped through primary school, if even any schooling at all. Yet somehow she’s the strategic mastermind of the pair now and he’s standing there with his ATM card in hand, waiting for instructions.

I can’t make the maths work.

Maybe it’s because he’s convinced himself he’s just pulled off the greatest caper in history. A woman half his age who wouldn’t have looked twice at him twenty years earlier, or ever for that matter. Once he buys into that fantasy, everything else comes with it. The drama. The sulking. The emotional blackmail. The endless little loyalty tests.

Some of these women seem professionally offended. Every day there’s a fresh crisis. Every conversation starts with a sigh and ends with him apologising for something he didn’t even know he’d done.

I’d last about six seconds around one of these birds.

Then I look at these couples and think, what exactly are these guys seeing? Half the women of this ilk are covered in tattoos, appear permanently angry, and loud enough that I’d be asking the airline for a different seat if one of them sat next to me.

Meanwhile, the bloke is walking around like he won first prize in the lottery.

I suppose that’s what puzzles me most. It isn’t the age gap. It isn’t even the money.

It’s watching a dude who came to Thailand looking for freedom end up asking for permission to spend his own money, where he's allowed to go, what he's allowed to eat, and who he's allowed to talk with.

That’s the bit I just can’t make sense of.

Puzzled.

Why do you think of those dudes? It's everybody's free decision to come to Thailand and spend the money as you want, throw it of the window even.

Who cares?

Is this really something to make another (one of a million) story?😳
