A 69-year-old Australian man has died after falling from the sixth floor of a condominium in Si Racha, Chon Buri, early on 11 August. Police are investigating the circumstances and have sent the body for a post-mortem examination at Laem Chabang Hospital.

Rescuers from the Sawang Pratheep Si Racha unit and officers from Si Racha Police Station were called to the condo, in Moo 4 of Surasak subdistrict, at about 6am.

The man was identified as Andre Schuster, reported by authorities as an Australian national. He had lived alone in the condominium for less than a year, according to initial information reported to police.

Witness heard a loud impact

A foreign resident on the second floor, who said he was the first person to find the body, told officers he heard a loud impact.

He went out onto his balcony and looked down, where he saw Mr Schuster lying on a lower-level balcony area of the building. The witness said he did not know what had led to the fall.

Mr Schuster was found on the lower level wearing blue sleepwear. His arms and legs were broken and he had a head injury to his forehead. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers also noted marks of paint or dust on his hands and the soles of his feet.

Police believe he fell from the sixth-floor room where he had been staying.

Officers inspected Mr Schuster's room and said it appeared normal, with no signs of a disturbance and no evidence of a struggle.

Police said their preliminary view was that the incident may have been intentional and could have been linked to personal stress. They noted dust marks on his hands and feet, which they believe may indicate that he climbed onto the balcony before the fall.

However, the exact cause of death and the circumstances leading to it will be determined by the post-mortem examination and investigation.

Very sad news. RIP Andre. 😔

I’m sure the ASEAN Now forensic department will have the entire case solved within the next 20 minutes, complete with motive, method and CCTV footage they’ve never actually seen.

Personally, I’ll leave it to the police and post-mortem to establish what happened. Whatever the circumstances, a 69-year-old man has lost his life, and somewhere a family is grieving. A little respect probably isn’t too much to ask.

Vloggers, broadcasting their untruths about Thailand, telling their viewers to relocate here, everything is rosy, that all is well, life goes smoothly and there are no problems or worries, describing Thailand completely positive, happy, and ideal.

From the balcony in the photo, it doesn't loo look he would have to climb anywhere .

The difference here is that suicides are reported in Thai news. Does that light in spark in others that they think this is a possibility for them? Dunno, but I've never seen a report of a suicide in Japan or Western countries.

The handrails are too low; they were designed for shorter people.

When I rented condos or hotel rooms I always booked one with a balcony.

To date, I have never fallen off of a balcony. But then, I never sat on the balcony railing.

While the house now is ground level I do have a pool. Maybe I’ll drown but highly unlikely as I once swam for a living.

Andre was my friend. We exchanged messages as recently as last week. His last message to me was just four days before his passing and if he was contemplating suicide I saw no cue whatsoever. Sadly his body still remains at Laem Chabang Hospital morgue as of this morning, awaiting release to his next of kin in Australia or whoever the undertaker his NOK hires and there's nothing I as a friend can do for him other than to send him metta. RIP, my friend.

Sorry for your loss, I too had someone commit suicide, just days after having beers with me and a few laughs with the girls in a Fillipino bar, not in Thailand, but he seemed as fun as ever. Three days later he left a note and hung himself, saying he had no purpose in life - I went to the VA where he had been attending meetings, of course they couldn't tell me anything about his treatment, but the therapist did say he was deeply troubled about his time in SE Asia and maybe that day.night in the Asian bars brought back memories. I struggled to think it wasn’t my fault, still not convinced, as I took him there. Rest in Peace to your friend. Peace
