Bickering can be easily solved.

A simple change to the problem posters account makes their every post requiring validation by a moderator before being publicly posted. Instantly removing all trolls (by removing their fun factor).

But it does reduce the numerous back and forth replies, costing a 'google financed' forum to lose money (clicks and posts = money).

No dilemma, cash is No.1.

I participate in other forums privately financed that operate this 'no trolls' policy, and there are not only no trolls at all, but no personal insults, and ZERO bickering.

As a forum member for quite a few years, I can remember when it was much more combative, but the argumentative threads were significantly outnumbered by the sensible, informative ones, especially in the specialist sections.

I think the mix has changed, so now the majority of threads are petty bickering and many of the specialist sections are dead.

This forum serves as a valuable service for geriatric members of society. It provides older adults with an outlet to feel like they are participating in society.

Some members want to get a reaction so they will bait members deliberatly trying to get a reaction, they will then carry on till the member get's annoyed. then you you get yourself into trouble. Maybe thats there game to get members suspended.

Totally agree. Ai assisted comments are also a bore. Easily detected by the constant use of em dash.
