Good post but I disagree with your last sentence. Let us determine if the poster is a fool that is insulting you. I have personally sent private messages to members asking them to stop abusing you. Many other members have been disgusted with certain individuals that have taken advantage of your inability at times to let go.

They are ruining their rep and that needs zero moderation. Many members like you Freddy with all your flaws ( I have too) and asking a moderator for help is less than manly IMO. I noticed how you refrain from responding to one member that won't leave you alone and we all respect this attitude!

My "flaws" are partly what others have tried to point out to you. I've admitted what I've done by feeding them. Defending myself might be a flaw to you, but if they're , again, breaking forum rules, it's nothing to do with me.

If you go back to the history of myself and a couple of others, you would see they did to me what they do to everyone else here that disagrees with them. They at first try to prove you wrong, even though you're going on facts, then they start with the insults.

The assumptions about your life included, when they've never met you and are only going by what you've said here. Taking your reality, the truth about your life, and dismissing it and turning it around to suit their narrative or trolling isn't on you but them.

Being manly is first how you treat others around you, and then is not letting bullies get away with bullying but calling them out then stopping them in their tracks, and that's a members job along with the mods,as it's their site. Remember, it isn't all about reporting them, as the mods do their rounds and find things that are going sideways.

OK but still feel you have let bullies play with your head and moderation is just going to make this more apparent. Up to you in the end. I handle my issues alone with rare exception and would never ask another adult to discipline someone that is unkind to me. That is my style and maybe your approach is better. I just am not sure..... I find it liberating to just let go and not ask for help.

I've done decades of reading on psychology and it's not them playing with my head but calling them out for what they are. This is to help other members recognize their tactics so not to fall into a trap themselves.

Yes, ignoring them for your own self is a good idea, but they'll just switch to another unsuspecting member and tear them down until they also figure them out. Moderation stops them from getting to far in their trolling. No one likes being told lies about them, and that might be my deal, arguing too long with a certain few.

The way to stop a bully is always the same. Standing up to them and not letting them continue. They are victims themselves from their own parents, and if they aren't full blown NPD, they can change.

Freddie, we all see and don't need you to point it out. We also all see your completive need to be right. It is a huge flaw that the abusers enjoy taking advantage of it to no end.

Your standing up to them in the real world works but in your case is not working online. It is frustrating seeing you fight with these abusers and tarnishing your rep. You lose it and this brings you down to their level. You are better than them IMO. Just let it go and those psychology books you read will confirm that this is the best approach. I like you and most members do even with your stubborn tendencies.

I don't need to be right. Why argue at all if you're wrong? It's not a flaw as it's everyone here who argues about anything. They are arguing because they think they're right. Some go by facts and some by opinions and other's opinions.

You're right about letting most things go. Also that the abusers take advantage of it.

As I said, my arguing with them although for too long at times, has others seeing them for what they are, and yes, it has tarnished my rep awhile, but I've backed off considerably. I'm not disagreeing with what you mean about trying to let things go. I'm stubborn and sometimes it's not necessary.

How do you know what I do? I don't hold grudges against anyone that isn't continuing their bad behavior. When they stop I'll interact with them. I'm always civil to people civil to me.

An insult is an opinion. Gee whiz.

An opinion is your own views on something you hear about. An insult is a directive towards someone in a rude, offensive, demeaning way to make yourself feel better.

You whinge daily about other posters making assumptions about you and insulting you. Try reading your own posts for a change.

I don't whine. I call others out who are breaking the forum rules by flaming myself or others.

I know exactly what I say here but you might want to take your own advice and look at what you've been saying all along for years, which has nothing to do with me.

Defending yourself against others trolling you isn't the same as trolling others to bait them.

If you had self awareness you wouldn't even make that comment, let alone the others that have given you your reputation here. Think.

An insult is an opinion. Words are just words. They mean nothing without emotional attachment. 8 years in Thailand yet you don't know the first thing about Buddhism. Whingeing daily about opinions. Gee whiz mate take a reality check. Stage 3 cancer or being in a wheelchair is a real problem.

Then stop insulting people. Golly gee.

Back when this was ThaiVisa we had a couple of poster meetups, where we saw each other from behind the keyboard. Quite fun. Once in Phuket we were at a poster's sports club in Rawai , we ate bar b cue played ping pong had drinks, good times.

Whole bunch of male keyboard warriors now. Meetup BKK (?), doubt many would show.

Every line an assumption. Words do more damage than physical in many situations.

Emotional attachment isn't something others can see until actions show it.

I knew about Buddhism decades before I came here. This topic has nothing to do with religious beliefs.

I don't whine. I call out those that are insulting myself or others for their own personal narrative. You live for AI so here's this.............

Differences Between Opinions and Insults

  • Goal: An opinion aims to share a thought or view. An insult aims to offend or hurt.

  • Focus: An opinion targets a subject, idea, or situation. An insult targets a person's character or worth.

  • Substance: An opinion can be backed by reasons or arguments. An insult replaces argument with a personal attack.

The Overlap

  • Disguised attacks: People sometimes use the phrase "that's just my opinion" to excuse a mean remark.

  • Value judgments: Saying "I think this work is poor" is a negative opinion. Saying "You are an idiot for making this work" crosses into an insult because it attacks the person instead of the idea.

In the real world nobody talks like him or 95% of other posters. Internet talk and the real world are miles apart.

This is the real world and I could say that I've never met but a few in the "real world" who talk and act like you and a couple of others here. The only difference is that a few here wouldn't talk like they do here in public for fear of reprisals.

True. Most are just looking to fill in the day. Hating a stranger provides a dopamine hit they lack in real life.

Oh, no! It would only take one moderator to not accept my post as sarcasm to get me suspended.

But, to answer the question at the start of this forum - Yes, I believe that the percentage of contentious postings has increased over the past couple of years. I don't think that's necessarily because now there are more rude people on this site. I think it's because the state of the world, especially in the USA - my home country - has been significantly polarized. This causes a lot of social turmoil, which eventually spills over into these forums.

Our leftist friend is spot on. The divisions between the right and left have deepened in society and this has spilled over to this forum. You can see it clearly, the leftist posters like to stick together for the most part and avoid having their view destroyed, bar a few exceptions. And right wing posters also do not like having leftist extremists question their view. Views have become more extreme, especially from the rabid feminists.

I for one commend WDSmart's civility and intelligence. The kind of leftist poster we need here.

Farangs label things as good and bad a lot. Parents, schooling, western politics and religion brain washed them. They need to unbrainwash themselves.

Think about it Rocky. You are in Thailand now hence you are regarded as a farang to all Thai's who see you. Start trying to work on your brainwashing.

For a part time budget tourist you sure do have some strong opinions about expat life in Thailand.

Did Rocky state this somewhere? I missed it and that is a heavy accusation.

His posts are interesting but he contradicts himself. Claims to be Zen but places labels on himself and others. True Zen is observing life without labels. Labels are ego, the opposite of Zen.

Yes, in various forms besides that exact wording. A few here are hardcore misogynists and label those who stick up for women as hardcore feminists.

I must have missed the posts where he describes women as dogs. Strange and seems out of character for him.

Using smiling emojis after an insult is a veiled way of insulting even more. Passive aggressive behavior by those with an NPD dosorder.

With this, are you suggesting that @Hummin has NPD?

You make up all kinds of nonsense to fit your argument at the time. So many people in your life have NPD or are covert narcissists.

You literally have thousands of posts labelling people morons and worse, but yet you are here pretending to be some arbiter of quality posting.

Then post under your real name, with your real address on display.

How does free speech relate to that?

Just now, fredwiggy said:

Provide proof or don't post nonsense. You've never met me so the only things you know about me are what I've stated here, which has nothing to do with holding any grudges besides what I mentioned earlier.

I've offered to help you at least twice here. What stopped you from politely declining? The first time you raged, talking about violence(on your part) and reported it. This for offering you some products for which you were looking to source. The post was removed and then reinstated after review. That's you abusing the system because you are mad. The second time, you didn't respond.

The fact is that you cannot let things go. You don't know how to de-escalate a situation, because you do not know how to properly read it. Similarly the other poster with whom I have discussions. Many times have reached out in normal conversation, only for the person to react with paranoia and rudeness. So it continues. One side always believing they are in the right and often supported by a single moderator. The same one almost every time. Raging and abusive.

Again, I expect this post to disappear and again, am unconcerned, as the truth will always prevail, whether you like it or not.

Here's a typical @Rockyroad reply from a post Rocky started called 'Red Flag In Women', April 30.
