No, I didn't ignore it. I don't need to prove that to you or anyone else either. Like I mentioned, and you possibly missed. You have your beliefs, and I have mine. If you've looked around all your years on earth, you have seen the evidence. Anyone that thinks everything on earth and what it constitutes came from a big bang that wasn't God's plan is fooling themselves.

Some do have very closed minds, thinking all of earth's species, how it relates to the sun, and has everything to sustain life, is all the evidence one needs to believe in a creation, and not something that happened from nothing. If there was a speck of matter in the universe, how did it get there? When it's my time to go, I'll go the way I'm supposed to, as life is precious and I would never shorten it by myself.

Well, 80% of the world's people must be stupid, or more likely, it's the minority, many of whom just hate God because they lost someone to some crappy disease and can't believe a God could do such a thing. Believe what you want, as it's more evidence of your limited thinking skills and belief in other's opinions. You have no idea who you talk to here, and your words here show that daily. Are YOU really that stupid? Try that superiority attitude with someone else here. it doesn't work with me.

Being a Catholic ,an American, and a supporter of the Second Amendment is all I really need to know about you, to form an opinion on your thinking abilities.

Yes, a lot of the world is still mired in ignorance. When it comes to religion and science, religion yields most reluctantly, as do you.

Yes, and you, as always, will be wrong. Remember, it's a biased, prejudiced, limited educated opinion, and not a fact. Ignorance is blaming all Americans for what a few do.

Ignorance is going by a few words a person says in an online forum, where you have never met them, where you have no evidence to the contrary, and calling them stupid, actually thinking you're smarter because of your bias.

I think you missed my points again. You believe what you want to believe, and the majority worldwide, which includes me, will believe otherwise, and when we die we will all see the truth. What will you say to God when you meet him?

If I see the sun rise, it's my personal experience, and is factual. That's what I mean by that statement. If a hundred people see the same thing I do, that makes it factual and not my interpretation of the event. If a woman hits you like the one Cam said hit him, and a hundred people see it happening, it's a fact. If he said it happened and no one saw it happen, it's his experience and a fact, although some might not believe him for their own narratives. It doesn't matter what anyone thinks. Things are facts or they aren't. Opinions are opinions, and they might be factual or not. People lie and exaggerate when things happen, but some tell things exactly how they are.

You are still mixing observation with interpretation, Fred. Seeing something happen can be factual. What you think it means, why it happened, and what lesson you take from it is interpretation.

I don't go by what I think something means if I see it happening. In the written word, many can interpret things differently. Listening to others speak, some can interpret things differently than others who might have more or less knowledge on the subject. My point is what I see happening, is happening. Facts exist independently of how we feel, judge, or interpret them. Yes, people again, lie, exaggerate and tell it like it is. I don't.

That's the point, you won't see the truth because there is nothing on the other side to see. You have no evidence to support your belief there is.

I know there are people in the world smarter than me. You are not one of them.

In the highly unlikely event I was to meet god, I would be asking him what kind of all-powerful god permits 160 innocent kids to be murdered with American bombs.

Fred, nobody is arguing that facts do not exist. I am talking about what happens after the observation. What you notice, what you remember, what you leave out, how you connect it to previous experience, how you imagine and colour those facts, and what conclusion you draw from them. That part is yours. That is where perception and bias enter. Saying “I don’t” is exactly the kind of certainty psychology should make us careful about.

And when we speak about the Bible, you cannot treat what is written there as fact just because it is written. Some parts have historical support, some do not. The rest is belief and part of a belief system.

Do you not realize you don't see the truth either? You have no evidence to prove there isn't a God. Yes, there are many people smarter than you in this world, and I'm definitely one of them, but you wouldn't know this as it takes a smart person to recognize another, and being a skimmer, it misses you completely. When you meet God, and you will, you have a lot of splainin' to do Lucy.

Edit: To show you were wrong once again about Catholics and pedos worldwide, again meaning their amounts are the same as any other male dominated professions..............Celibacy: Scientific and psychological studies, including major reviews like the John Jay College Report, have found that celibacy itself does not cause sexual attraction to minors; the vast majority of child sexual abusers in society are not celibate. Screening Failures: Past screening practices in seminaries often failed to filter out individuals with psychological immaturity or underlying deviances, and historical medical advice occasionally led to offenders being recycled into ministry after brief treatments

When I see something, I go by what I see, and not my past experiences. Every situation is a brand new one, and when you have an open mind, you see things as they appear, without prejudice or bias.

I know the Bible takes liberties in some ways, as man wrote it, and we don't know how much has been misinterpreted. That's why i go by faith on what's important. Jesus and his teachings.

Islam is growing 60% faster than Christianity. It may overtake Christianity by the middle of this century. Then it will be in the majority.

Muslims do not believe Jesus was the son of God. So when they attain a majority, do you go with them as the majority view?

I have lived a fairly blameless life. I have never cheated or been violent with anybody.

You believe I will roast in Hell because I don't believe in God, while a rapist who goes to confession is forgiven his sins.

Yeah, first of all it makes no sense logically whatsoever. The rapist should not "get off the hook" that easily.

But second of all, it's a form of mind control, using fear tactics to bend someone else to their will.

I went to a Bible group meeting once because my friend in high school was "born again". I refused to get "saved", so they eventually got tired and kicked me out. Lol.

Yeah, my "belief" is that maybe people may have lived until 900 and then the Gods decided to tweak our genome.

Can't be proven, but cannot be disproved either.

Pretty much like your "climate change" theory. LOL.

I think scientists cannot quite grasp "human chromosome 2" and it seems to put a spoke in the wheels of Darwin's theory.

It's interesting to think about how long one may be remembered by one's descendants or people whom one knew along the way.

I remember the husband of my grandfather's eldest sister. He was born in 1885.

The greatest thing about death is: You don't know that you are dead. So (for the dead people) it is of no relevance who remembers them, nor how much was spent on funeral expenses, nor the following financial bickering among their heirs is of relevance for the dead.

Death is truly remarkable: You don't know that you are dead. You are just dead. Returning to the same state before you were born. A state of "non existence". A very desirable state of "non existence", I find.

Not sure I'll be remembered by anyone except my closest family, as I have zero creative talents, so will not be leaving an enduring novel, an immortal song or a beloved painting.

My talent was work .... I managed the birth and development of several large businesses, and while they continue to thrive after I left, with the churn of people, nobody will remember me.

Looking back, I helped many people's careers, but was not the best friend or partner, so I'll be forgotten by old colleagues and can only hope I'll be forgiven by old lovers.

Teachers: you may remember the good ones, but you never forget the cranks and weirdos.

Come to think of it, that also applied to the girls in those hormonal teenage tsunami years, where you remember the supermodels, whereas those that put out are unforgettable.

On topic: I'm the last one standing from my family, so when I pass, there's only my wife and two boys who's thoughts and opinions of me will matter.

To them. Briefly.

Yeah, but first, it is not “my climate change theory.” I cherry pick from established theories and evidence, then add what I have seen from experience and what we are actually doing to local environments around the world. I am always willing to change my mind when better evidence comes along. Most important is not to become too sure.

The chromosome is actually evidence for evolution, not against it. The gorilla lineage split from ours earlier, roughly 8 to 10 million years ago, while our lineage split from the common ancestor we shared with chimpanzees around 6 to 7 million years ago. Later, two ancestral chromosomes fused in the human lineage and became human chromosome 2. That is why we have 46 chromosomes while chimpanzees, gorillas and orangutans have 48, and we can still see evidence of that fusion today.

So comparing that with a belief that people lived 900 years and gods later tweaked our genome does not really work. One has physical evidence behind it, the other is simply something that cannot be ruled out because there is no way to test it.

The funny part is, I saw this discussed on a StarTalk short with Neil deGrasse Tyson just a few days ago. The gorilla lineage separated earlier, while our lineage and the lineage leading to chimpanzees and bonobos shared a common ancestor until roughly 6 to 7 million years ago. I will try to find the actual clip later.

Human chromosome 2 is a large human chromosome that formed from the head-to-head fusion of two separate ancestral primate chromosomes. This major genetic event explains why humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes while other great apes, such as chimpanzees, gorillas, and orangutans, have 24 pairs.

Evidence for the Fusion

  • Matching DNA: Human chromosome 2 lines up cleanly with two separate ape chromosomes

  • Timeline: The fusion event occurred in the human lineage after splitting from the common ancestor shared with chimpanzees, estimated by various studies to be between roughly 1 to 5 million years ago.

  • Speciation: This chromosomal reduction may have helped create a reproductive barrier between early human ancestors and other primate populations

I've shown evidence here multiple times about that. About your attitude also, but seeing that's a part of your personality, it will never change.

Islam is still a belief in God. It doesn't matter who believes in what. Belief in God is what matters. God is our only judge, and he knows our hearts ans what we believe.

You say you've lived a blameless life, yet you think you're smarter than people here and call them stupid, so I'm guessing you can't see where you went wrong. but it started in childhood.

Where did I say I believe you will roast in hell? I said you will meet God, and will have some explaining to do, but it's still up to him. It's said the only unpardonable sin is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, a hardening refusal to accept God's grace, as we all sin in other ways anyway. All sins are forgiven through Christ when you repent, as it's not just about saying you're sorry but meaning it. Do you think Hitler would be forgiven, seeing it was so ingrained from being responsible for all those deaths? I think he was far past repenting, especially seeing he also killed himself, something also frowned upon by God.

I'm not near stupid or ignorant, but you're certainly showing those traits once again. Most people on earth believe in God, so go and call them stupid and ignorant. It means nothing to me as I'm not that in any way.

Edited by fredwiggy

Who cares? What they remember, or choose to forget, will have no effect on me.

Why do you want to be remembered? The ego demands it perhaps. I couldn't care less.

In 50 years practically nobody will remember you and in 100 everyone won't know you existed.

Only people remembered by society are truly amazing people or truly awful people and that's after centuries with over 8 billion people on the planet now.

I will not be remembered in perpetuity, and I do not care. I will possibly be remembered by one generation, and even that has no meaning. Being dead removes it all. I won't care, and neither will the people who survive me. At most one or two generations will even remember my name, much less my accomplishments or failures.

I left a trail that others still laugh at during get togethers and definately have enjoyed life. Now at 59, I live a quiet life with an incredible partner for the last 6 years. Nothing exceptional and nobody would remember anything I've done and definitely wouldn't talk about my life at parties. Happier now than ever before and I think it is the realization that constructing an ego and maintaining it is not that important. I'm boring and happy and can live with that.

I doubt many, if any, people will recall me beyond close members of my immediate family. I've had 3 close friends in my lifetime, all dead. Very few 'legacies' are remembered beyond a generation, and for those who think otherwise, you're kidding yourselves.

He is a renowned expert in genetics, so you should respect his authority.

Here is a hint. Most people, including your family will forget you when you die ...in 3 months. They will think about you on your Birthday if they have time, but for the most part, you are a memory on the wall. That is life.

Only those who are very close to you will remember you. And that is a small number.

My father is mostly bad memories.

But I won't forget my mother.

And there is actually a void now. I feel a void since her death.

Depends how shallow you are, I guess.
