It does seem like a harsh punishment but sometimes punishments are for the deterrence of others aren't they.

If true, he should be deported. Having said that, I hope the authorities do the same with many of the other violent and abusive farang kee nok that we see in the news almost every day.

My naivety is non-existent but your lack of understanding of how deportation works clearly is. In your imaginary depiction the police would not be making any decisions regarding deporting anybody, it's the courts that do that.
