A bit harsh, really. How can somebody be your enemy when you don't even know them? That's why I used the word dislike in the title of this topic.

It's a lot more than five.

The animosity can escalate over time on forums ... so enemy is maybe a bit strong, but the HATE can build up.

Some people just bow out, put the other guy on ignore ...

Nice, thank you. Did nearly 11,000 steps today, which is about my limit. I can do 15K, but my feet get pretty fatigued. Still, when I’m walking somewhere new in cool, refreshing weather, I’m smiling the whole way.

Car washing is like motorcycle washing. For me, it’s usually a once a year thing, but even then, many times I’m pretty good at putting it off for another year. It's patina! 😂

I ended up washing the car. LOL
Used a local self-serve place. Fifty baht.
It's now in the carport under a cover so the birds don't perch themselves on the wing mirrors checking themselves out and relieve themselves down the front doors, and there isn't a lovely coverage of gecko faeces on the roof.
[The things I write politely]

As for the bike? I think some enterprising 15 year-old washed it for 50 baht at a morning market just before the beginning of the new school year. That'll do it until Songkran 2027.

Most people on these forums know they are behind the grey curtain of anonymity. They wouldn't treat each other like this face to face.

Right on. If they would behave like this at the local bar, they would leave the bar with a bloody nose day after day.

Don't think I've ever encountered a Thai in real life that liked the idea of open borders to Thailand.

Are you equating the western world to the real world?

And Asia/Africa/S. America/Russia to the unreal world

Same goes for UK/Europe/USA - no one in real life likes the idea of open borders apart from corporations and j's.

The internet is fake n ghey as are most of the people/bots arguing for open borders.

Let's face it. Over time we have dwindled to a handful of "regulars". We have become a quarreling family. We know each others views in advance. We enjoy the verbal ping pong game daily.

Only thing: "sarcasm" is not understood here. Therefore I recommend to mark every sarcastic comment with a 😉

So you settle verbal disputes by punching people in the face. It’s no wonder there are pea brained idiots here that have problems socializing on the forum, they are faced with people that they can’t punch. Will you be fist socializing at a bar tonight? Or posting more disfigured nonsense here?

Clearly, you haven't gotten the essence of my post. Pointless to respond.

PS: In the hearthland of America, disputes are still settled by physical force at the bar on saturday night. It's traditional.

No, just the obvious trolls who are begging for it.

Much of what I read here in the Pub seems to be members going at each other. Very few seem to agree on anything. Maybe that does not necessarily translate into actual dislike, but very few people seem to get along.

So I started wondering whether that is intentional. Do the majority of people come here looking for an argument, or is it simply that people genuinely have major differences of opinion? And if you can't get along at all, then why bother even showing up here, day in, day out? That bored and self loathing?

I notice quite a few people, and I am not going to name any names, obviously, who never seem to post anything of interest, rarely respond to the actual topics, never start any topics of their own, and spend nearly all their time going after other people and pointing out their imperfections. I would say they are definitely coming here looking for an argument. Or, if not an argument, they are just trying to act smug to try and reduce their own level of personal unhappiness.

That is OK. I think it is very much a characteristic of online communities, and social media in particular. I do not mind it. It is fine. Let people vent. But I do think some people take themselves far too seriously.

If you are willing to have a laugh at other people, then you need to be willing to have a laugh at yourself too. But try and at least be humorous in your attacks. At a minimum, throw in some wit and help others to laugh too. That is the part that often sours it all. Some people here are so vicious that when they have a laugh at you, it is difficult to laugh along with them because there is more contempt than jest behind it.

The people I am referring to, as I said, I am not going to name. If for no other reason, they probably already know who they are.

Anyway, putting all the negative aspects aside, this is quite a unique and beautiful place. People can have a go at just about anything, and the level of tolerance here is surprisingly high. Well done. That is hard to find elsewhere online these days. You even have a couple, maybe more than a couple, who are complete lunatics, and yet somehow they find a voice here too.

The great thing is that nobody really has to care whether somebody likes what you have to say or not. Fine. Do not like it. No problem.

And if you do not like this post, no problem either. You have options. You can have a go, take the piss, you can ignore it, or you can just go off and do something more pleasurable with your time. Whatever floats your boat.

I am going to go outside and have a nice walk now. The weather here is beautiful, and I am in a new place that I am keen to explore.

Wishing you all a great day.

I have said it before I think yes there are certain people that through trolling or just being cantakerous upset people here. The challenge is that no I can not hate peple here because I do not knw most people here.

Now if we had to use our real names it might change things BUT it is what it is for people that I disagree with i will ususally stay away frm their posts. Life is to short

I do like to needle people sometimes.

Some people deserve a little ridicule.

Some on here go to insults right away when they disagree, that is annoying.

I do enjoy reading pointless battles that end (or not) with one combatant declaring he has "won the argument".

The one human trait that seems to be amplified here is poor self awareness. Especially, "pot calling kettle black" type posts.

I have learned not to respond to petty attacks to some extent, but that kind of depends on whether I have time on my hands or not.

Can't think of anyone I hate, but there are a few who I think are a little crazy.

We should make this more interesting.

Rather than just have mods deleting posts, we should have "referees" who decide who won an argument and then hand out a prize to the winner of each argument.

I think it's important to differentiate between the cause and the individual commenting on the cause. Much the same as it's important to differentiate between a political supporter and the toxic monster freak that they are supporting.

I think it's important to have civil dialogue and to at least make an attempt to not make it personal, unfortunately a lot of people have very thin skin and they don't like having their idols criticized.

Mature people can engage in a dialogue and be critical of the cause or the movement without feeling the need to be hateful towards each other. Despite the fact that a number of political leaders encourage them to do so.

It's all about leadership of opinion. And if you're not used to have a discussion then you feel soon being defeated and it turns to be argumentative and aggressive.

It's a matter of intelligence. The level here is very low, indeed.

What does that even mean? Falling in line, conformity, go along just to get along? Why would anyone want an opinion leader unless they’re incapable of forming their own thought(?). How about individual opinions and staying true to oneself and not being so bothered by others.

I have to agree with this. Many seem to be trying to 'win' the conversation or at least not to be seen to 'lose'.

Stuck in a closed loop.

What I dislike are those who cannot hold their own in any dialogue, then hitting the Report button to have what they consider signs of a humiliating defeat removed.

Life's victims in perpertuity.

I tend to think that these people don't have any real friends. Acquaintances perhaps. With my friends, we can start off with opposing views, sharing insights and perspective in order to understand the other person's point of view. It's through friendship that you keep listening and keep talking. You listen because you respect your friends, even if you think they are wrong.

Here people seem more galvanised by mutual dislike. It's just "I am right and you are wrong". The end.

In an anonymous forum represented with a wide range of nationalities and cultures conflict is inevitable, best not to take it too seriously.
