So anyway, I think this skink can tolerate a light source which puts out radiation from between 404 nanometers to 579 nanometers.....

In addition to this artificial light, which I will keep ON 24hrs, there is also a very nice window for the kink.

And, as well, he is getting plenty of fresh air from an opening in the window, near the ceiling.

I wish he would climb up the wall, and go out through this exit point, but.....

Maybe he likes it where he is.

Or, probably he is a lazy skink.

Concerning the UVB requirement........

He will not get this from the Panasonic lamp.

He can only get this if he decides to leave his new bathroom enclosure.

It's named Sun Skink because of the brightness of it's scales when sun hits them. They need sunlight to regulate body temps.

Imagine a grown man descending into an existential crisis over a harmless 6 inch lizard in his bathroom that spends most of its time hiding, only coming out to help by eating all the mosquitoes, flies, crickets, termites, beetles, cockroaches, spiders, and worms hanging around his abode.

I actually sit on the hopper every day with my 12-inch mambo hanging over the bowl and it's never been a problem. You get used to it and some of us are just blessed, I guess.

A 12 inch skink is not so bad. We used to have a 36 inch green iguana that often wandered into the house looking for someone to feed it. This was 5 years ago and it disappeared. I assume the neighbours ate it.

But just yesterday it showed up again! But it hasn't come into the house yet.

Beautiful specimen. Possibly you already know that common/green iguanas are not native to Thailand, but are an invasive species from Central/South America and Mexico. First Introduced here by pet owners, now they are thriving. I've had a few as pets, and eaten a few as well.

All animals would be better off not living with humans. I advise releasing it, perhaps somewhere near a source of water.

GG I thought you were going to get your big strong protector to get the skink out of the house. What happened did she die laughing at you,

The soultion is simle

You get a cardboard box and a broom. You lay the box so that the skink can get into it then you use the broom to guide it to and into the box.

If you can't do it, then I guess youhave towait a week for your cleaner to do it for you.

One of my favorite films about Iguanas was shot in Mismaloya, a remote fishing village just south of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico.

I enjoy looking at Iguanas.

But, in my opinion, Farang should rightfully be considered even more an invasive species relative to Iguanas.

Also, what we really need more of around here is drums and drumming in the night.

She could not stop laughing and asked if I were afraid of the defenseless thing.

But, we could not easily find it, even thought we could hear it.

We will need to remove the boxes on Wednesday.

I don't want it to die on account of my laziness.

Assuming there is even a shred of truth to this latest dilemma of yours, what makes you think this animal is somehow dependent on you to provide it with water? It is literally residing in your bathroom according to you. That is an entire room specifically designed around the concept of water.

Maybe that is why it is there in the first place. It is a wild animal, after all. Presumably it has at least a rudimentary understanding of survival. If it gets thirsty, I imagine it will find some water. And when it decides it has had enough of its luxurious bathroom residency, it will presumably go back outside the same way it came in.

I know you enjoy the fantasy that you are personally keeping this creature alive by providing it with water, but realistically, whether you put out a little dish for it or not probably makes very little difference, if any, to its long term survival. Still, if this arrangement gives you some pleasure and sense of purpose, by all means continue with your humanitarian work.

Although, if you are going to take responsibility for its wellbeing, I think you should really commit to the role. Offer it some cold, refreshing green tea, maybe share your Netflix subscription with it. Let it use your laptop to check its email. And at some point you are going to have to start asking whether it needs a little blanket at night.
