I googled "fake memory stick" and came up with a lot of hits and I clipped this from a site called my.qj.net

Sony has added into the 3.00+ firmwares an easy way to check whether memory sticks are genuine or not...

While on a 3.00+ firmware, whether your actually on one, emulating with Devhook or your using 3.02OE:

1: Browse to your memory stick under game, video, photo or music.

2: Press triangle and select information

3: If it says its magic gate compatible its real. If not then its fake.

This is an excellent way for people to be absolutely sure that their memory stick is real.

Good luck!

Unless you bought it from Sony or some other reputable seller, there is a good chance that it is a fake. The real ones are up to 8 gigs, and this is since last year. I got mine directly from sony on January and it has been working flawlessly since then... I also have another 4 gig from sony which works as well.

The fakes look so real now its hard to tell to the untrained eye. If you have a warranty, take it back!

You might try to reformat it and see if it becomes readable again.

i went to mbk again and got to know that the one i bought (4gb) when i bought the psp was a fake as it was about 1500 baht which doesnt have give warranty and found out again that the original in a sony shop of 4gb costs 3290 baht but a sandisk costs even more about 5000 so bought an original one as it also gives a 5 year warranty. thank you everyone for your response.
