Further Renewal Of 12 Month Extension Of Stay Based On Support Of Thai Wife And Our Son And Daughter

G'day.

This will be my fifth application for renewal of "12 month extension of stay" based on my support of my Thai Wife and Son and soon to be, Daughter.

What are the current financial requirements for this purpose?

In my case, in the first extension of stay, the rules were to show 200,000 Baht in a Thai Bank in 2003, this changed to 400,000 Baht shortly after that. Since then, I have showed Immigration a fresh 400,000 Baht in a Thai Bank transferred from abroad every renewal.

My current renewal of extension of stay is dated to expire on the 8th October 2007.

I understood from previous renewals that one could apply for a 12 month extension no greater than 30 days before the expiry date of the existing extension in my passport. No matter when I applied for these renewals they dated the new extension a per the 8th of October after consideration for approximately 30 days after the application for extension.

After a call on the hotline, I was advised that any further renewal would run from the day of the application for extension in the thirty day time band.

That would be different from previous experiences where my wife and I have been directed to wait 30 days for their decision and when renewed back or forward dated to the 8th October in any given year.

I am paid annually not monthly, so can only show the required annual amount, which I am currently trying to check. I am thirty days before the expiry of my current renewal of extension to stay on a Non-Immigrant Category "0" Visa issued in October 2003 in Brisbane.

No longer clear, please advise.

I have not heard of any change in extensions - they should start at the end of current one year permitted to stay stamp regardless of when obtained. But there seems to be a change in first applications from several reports this week that they start from end of current permitted to stay on first retirement extension so there could be a change in the works.

(6) In case of the applicant who is married to a Thai wife, one of them or both of them need to have the total annual income that is averaged out not less than 40,000 Baht per month. Except for the case that the said foreign national has entered Thailand before this Order is enforced and the foreign national has been permitted to stay in the Kingdom by the result of having married to a Thai wife, then if the applicant does not have the said income, then, the latest 3 months records of the account book of any Bank in Thailand with the account

Currently, in Chiang Mai, they required evidence of personal income of minimum 40,000 baht income per month.

If no evident is produce, a letter from the applicant consulate confirmed the total income per month is accepted.

I was told they are not more asking how much money you have in the bank. That much I gather form the Immigration office today.

This is true for men who apply for the first time for this type of extension after October 1, 2006, ie when the current rules took effect. See “Except for the case that the said foreign national has entered Thailand before this Order is enforced and the foreign national has been permitted to stay in the Kingdom by the result of having married to a Thai wife, then if the applicant does not have the said income, then, the latest 3 months records of the account book of any Bank in Thailand with the account name of either or both parties need to have the amount of money not less than 400,000 Baht” in the text quoted by Lopburi from the rules.

Went to Suan Plu yesterday.with my Pregnant Wife and my Son. Beyond the advice from Lopburi, Nasa and Maestro, the I.O. who was a jolly type of officer, asked my wife to fill in a form confirming our marriage and address and situation etc. That was the same as last year. Despite having a copy of her ID Card, Tabee An Bahn/ House Book with her name and our son's included in the book, additionally she asked for photos of our house's number plate and photos of the interior of the house. Plus I had to draw a map of the location.

1. Photocopy of applicants Passport.

2. Bank Letter, bank calls it "Immigration Letter".

3. Original and Photocopy of Bank Account three month activity.

4. Thai Form for Wife/Husband to sign only available at the interview.

5. Photocopy and original Her House Book, Tabee an Bahn.

6. Photocopy and original Her ID Card.

7. Wife/Husband in person.

8. One Day to wait in the line/queue for the application Bureau of Immigration.

9. Over 400,000 Baht in the account.

10. Another Day to wait in the line/queue "to hear the answer".

11. Don't forget the map!

Maybe there is more to come.

What happened to the previous years information. What do they do with it. Do they have a Database of normal law abiding applicants, I dare not ask...

I think I had better make a few more copies of the photos I will now have to supply for the future.

Suspect the photo requirement is this year as the old requirements were not as specific so they probably did not have on file what they wanted. They do keep all information in a hard file - mine is about two inches thick.
