The Areca lodge in soi diana is ideal - centrally located, includes breakfasts. However i would keep your budget open as the US dollar could soon be the Amero which will bw worth a lot less in exchange.

Arec lodge is around 1200 baht per night :o

Try The Residence Garden. It is located on Thappraya Rd. and is about a 3 minute bus ride to Walking St. If you ask for the internet rate is is 1499 baht per nite and you get a 2 room suite,2 tv's,small kitchen...great pool...very good breakfast and nice and quiet to sleep. It is almost always booked, even in low season. You can try theresidencegarden.com but I am not sure of the url. I think it's the best deal in town

I just returned from a stay at Pattaya Bay Resort on soi 15. They currently have a special rate of 790 baht per night until middle of next month. It's a new place so everything works and is clean. Staff are friendly and there is a free tuktuk service to 2nd road or you could walk through the new shopping mall. They also have free wifi access on all floors and a couple of PCs with internet access in the lobby. No mini bar in the room i was in but that's not big problem.

when i first arrived in pattaya a couple months ago i stayed 2 weeks in lk mansion for 2000 baht per week.its location on the corner of central pattaya rd and soi bukhao is ideal and convenient to everywhere-tops,carrefour,2nd road, beach st,etc.,plus the desk was helpful and one of the clerks even rents motorbikes out.

I've always stayed at the Diamond Beach. For the location it's surprisingly quiet. It's very convenient, on Walking Street, and well kept. Approx. 850 baht

Email and ask them availability. :o

As for closeness bout two minute walk to beach road, Royal Garden Shopping center is basically across the street and now that the new shopping complex is open - same side of second road. Right across from Soi Yamoto. McDonalds surrounding you if thats what you want.

I would not recommend Welcome Plaza Pattaya. It is a very dated and run-down hotel, cracked tiles/basins in bathrooms and certainly not the cleanest place to stay.

I stay several times a year - tis old, and needs a remodel, but:

1. staff are extremely friendly

2. rooms are clean

3. great pool

4. central location

5. Safe (won't find your gear nicked)

6. Great value for dosh even in high season

Forget the Welcome Plaza, It's tatty and long past it's use by date, even if it is cheap.

They also do a hard-sell on it at the booking booths at Bkk airport, that tells you something about a hotel !

My non-resident friends have said good things in the past about.

Areca

Royal Palace or Royal Twins

Dynasty

LK Metro

All very centrally located medium price places.

Oh ! Check out Tripadvisor's reports on WP Hotel HERE :o

Rather than ask What Hotel ? why dont you check the web, try Asiarooms.com or Sawadee.com. When you find

a place you fancy then go to Tripadvisor and see what others say or come back to Tv for a reality check. :D

Naka - good/bad reviews like most hotels on trip advisor!!! Welcome Plaza is good hotel at the end of the day for the price and there is no debate about this. The thing with some people they expect a ***** for a no star price.

I always get the jr suite, so perhaps its diff for those in lower level rooms, but never had a bad experience there and I've used them over 20x. :o

Brit, agree that the price is cheap but I was shocked at how bad it was on my one and only visit.

OP would be better off checking out the smaller places around Soi Buakao if his budget is limited to $35/night.

Best place to stay in Pattaya (IMO of course) is the Golden Crab on soi 13.........30 secs from the beach, handy for the Royal Garden shopping mall and the Avenue...............also baht buses run at each end of the street so easy for coming and going and the rooms are apartment style, seperate bedroom and kitchen facilities...........also living room.

Seaviews from the new wing.

This link will lead you to a report on another Forum......

Highly recommended.......... :o
