Hi Everyone, I would very much appreciate advice on the following,

I am about to start a new job and will have the necessary work permit soon.

However, I also want to start a business venture, possibly several buying and selling toys lets say. I am aware I will need to set up a company etc, but what is the case when you are already holding a work permit as an employee and want to work on your business as well. Do you have to get a second one with the 2 million baht cap and 4 thai staff?

One lawyer said you need your employer to state to purposes when applying for the first one?? But they did not seem experienced or confident on this issue!!

Anyone had a similar need and got an answer or Sunbelt can you enlighten me>?

Thanks

Your first WP will state inside what your employment is ( i.e teacher, consultant etc etc ) but will also state your place of work and address.

If you work as something else in another location you are NOT covered by that WP. You would be working illegally.

Not sure how you would get a second WP but i suppose its possible. Sunbelt would be the best ones to discuss that with I think.

As far as I know you need 2 work permits. Each work permit is specific to place of work, type of work and employer. Thus, as you have said your 2 jobs are unrelated, you could not get one work permit to cover both employments.

If your lawyer is not sure, get a different one. There's no shortage in Bangkok.

You don't need 4 Thai employees to get a wp( Unless you are an American, not married and have a sole proprietorship). Guess you have not read my posts as its been stated over a thousand time by me, no Thais required in most all cases to get a wp.

You will need 2 million Baht registered capital unless you are married to a Thai. If this however is a export company and you own more than 51% of the shares, you will still need 2 million Baht registered capital even if you are married to a Thai.

Your first company will need to sign a letter allowing you to have another work permit for another company. It does not matter what the occupation is with the second company and the first company. They will simply use the same wp and put a approval and job description for that second company. They use that same book.

Thanks for the replies...I guess Sunbelt doesnt read this thread or maybe no money in it for them!??

Sorry, didn't read the thread before. Pretty naive for you to think we respond to posts only if we get money. We have answered thousands of posts like others ( Lopburi) and have not gotten a baht.

If I have time, I respond, worked 128 hours last week so any spare time is very valuable. and why I'm answering this on a Monday morning at 2 a.m.

You can always ask one of staff at our firm as well. We do have free consultations.

Would there be two books if the jobs are in different provinces? If yes, would that mean the first employer doesn't have to okay it?

Two different wp books but they still wuld have you in the system having a wp in another province. in some cases they still want the letter.
