I dug out my old Epson printer. Checked at the Office Supply shop in Sukhumvit (Pattaya) but they don't have the ink cartridges anymore. Does anybody know by chance if they are still available? Would be nice for home use...otherwise it goes in the trash can...

Plenty of the online stores still have them in stock, fairly old printer so you're not likely to find them in the normal retail outlets.

Investigate re-filling your existing carts, particularly if they are 'pattern' rather than originals.

Additionally, if it's a long time since the printer was used you may have head clog problems (Windex is good for unclogging).

It's probably worth investing a little time to get the beast working, but I wouldn't spend more than a few bucks on ink :o

ok, found the ink at Tukcom. Clogging is indeed a problem, only a light touch of magenta reaches the paper...I googled for windex but could not find it. Do you have a link for free downloads? Or do I have to check the discount shops at Tukcom?

Hi raro,

just added the SSC Utilities for Epson Inkjet Printers to the Downloads of Thaivisa.

Try to use this program with your Printer but I'm not sure it will works with that old one but a try is to check it out.

Good luck

Ah, misunderstanding, Windex is a glass cleaning fluid :o

Any of the blue glass cleaners will do the trick. Give the pad where the heads park a good soaking (you'll have to persuade the head to move out of the way and pull the power plug so you can get at the pads), power off and leave overnight, then run another cleaning cycle.

Hi Daffy,

unfortunate there isn't a service utility available for canon.

But I'll check all my resources and if I should find same I'll let you know.

Hi Reimar, just downloaded that utility...but it says nothing but "printer off, some sort of problem". The printer is definatley on.

How to reach the bottom of the ink jets? I've got a lot of ink on my fingers now, but none on the paper.... :o

That looks like that the MB of the Pinter has a problem. If that happens, draw the printer in the rubbish bin!

If you want to buy a new one and you didn't want to print on CD's, I suggest to buy an Brother, special the DCP 330 C. IT-City has a promotion in the moment and the printer cost 2,990.00 a very good price. That printer is an all in one and has a Card Reader buildin although. Check on the Brother Website the whole spec! Very good value for money and printing is exellent. The only things you have to do if you use Vista is to download the new driver from Brother.

WOW! Thanks a lot crossy! After having had a closer look in the manual, I took Reimar's advise and gave it a good flinge in the direction garbage can... :o

Still great that you posted that one, otherwise I would have sleepless nights wondering as how to take it apart and together again...

I'd like to emphasize that I am certified for HP printer maintenance...that is some 12 years ago, but still, I saw stuff like that from the inside. But having not the appropriate tools on hand and having to replace the ink cartridge after maintenance anyways, I'd rather go for that brother printer or something similar and save me a lot of headache!

Cheers

555, can't say I blame you :D

I've always been of the opinion that if something has worked and then stopped it can always be fixed. Unfortunately this (and being skint) has often led to me spending considerably more time fixing ancient stuff than it was really worth. Now, in later life I can afford to replace things when they break.

It does still irk me sometimes to chuck stuff before at least attempting to get it going. This could explain why my wife still using the Singer treadle sewing machine that she used 20++ odd years ago (long before meeting me). It had been in her mum's buffalo shed for at least 10 years when it appeared in our lounge with a request to get it going (an offer of a nice new one was rejected, sentimental value). Took me a couple of weeks to un-seize it, strip it, and put it back together (no manual for this one), no one was more amazed than I when it actually worked. D@mn it, now she wants a new one :D

looks like we have something in common! I also can't just throw something away when I know that it is fixable. I also still keep that old ISDN modem, you never know when you may need it! :D
