Sorry if this has been covered before but I couldn't find it in a search...I have a Lexmark and a HP printer and want to know if I can use the same black ink to refill both printers. The refill boxes and contraptions are identical. The guy at the shop claims that the chemical composition (!) of the inks differ and using the wrong ink in one will cause printer problems and clogging. My thoughts are that perhaps he wants to make a double sale (cynical I know), but on the other hand I don't want to fluck up my printers! Does anyone else mix and match without problems?

I have a lexmark all in one, and I was only buying the good cartridge. I tried a refill and seemed to clog, but here in the forum some said just dip in warm water and clean it.  I did that with the refill cart and it works fine.  Been doing  it from time to time for awhile. seems to be OK.  I don't know about the HP but I will be getting one soon for my linux ops. as the lexmark is not well supported in linux.

If in Pattaya, go to the Home Pro or whatever next to Bi G C on Pattaya Tai. Before you get into that shop on the left is an office supply shop which has the copy cartridges for most printers. Far greater stock than Tukcom or anywhere else.

Thanks for your replies but I think I've been misunderstood! I always refill the ink cartridges myself, no problems there and I have no trouble buying the refills near me. What I would like to know is if I bought a Lexmark black ink refill kit, could I use that to refill the HP? Or if I bought a HP refill could I use that in the Lexmark? The boxes and refill methods are identical.

I would suspect that the ink composition between manufacturers is different so try it and see. If it works ka-ching for you! If it doesn't, ka-ching for the cartridge seller!

Is it possible that from the thousands of people on this forum, no one refills ink that isn't the same brand as their printer? I really don't want to bugger up my printers but it does seem a little crazy to have to buy 2 lots of ink when they look identical.

Most odd brand refill kits on the rack don't say anuthing about what printer they refill.  The ones I refill now, I just drop into the local refill booth I don't know what they put in them.  They do start to plug if not used enough, but the warm water thing fixs it.  With the lexmark it nothing to lose print head changes with every new cart. so if refill didn't work out you would be buying one

anyway so use hp in the lexmark and see what happens.
