Hello to you all,

This is my first post on this forum, I am hoping you maybe able to help me with my current situation which is un-certain.

I am currently in the UK living with my girlfriend and her child, they are both Thai, it is looking likely that they will have to leave the

UK soon as her current type of visa is running out. I am waiting to hear from the UK home office and I'm also trying to get her a work permit via her employers, but I suspect we will be given a date from the home office soon when she is exepcted to leave. We are not currently married but we have discussed it as something we may do in the future.

If they do have to leave the UK, my plan would be to go to Thailand with them or shortly afterwards. I would want to stay in Thailand for a least 12 months, I plan to not work if I can help it and to do some travellling and see some more of the country. I would also stay with her family in the north for a while as well.

If everything works out and I am still with my partner after my trip to Thailand, I would want to get her back in to the UK on a new Visa. Financee / Spouse etc.

My question is what type of Visa will I need to stay in Thailand for 12 months as we are not currently married?

If I was to get married out there and I was on a Travel visa could I change to a non-immigrant visa?

I'm totally new to the Visa issues and pretty confused about them. I have been to Thailand 4 times in the past but

only on short stay holidays so I never needed to apply for a Visa.

Any advise would be greatly appreiciated.

Many Thanks in advance.

Regards

Jay

You maybe able to get a multi entry Non Imm O Visa from the Thai Consulate in Hull. This would give you 15 months but would need you to exit and re enter Thailand every 90 days.

Failing that a 2 or 3 entry tourist visa.

Google their website and give them a ring and see what they can do.

I am not English but apparently the Thai consulate in Hull are very good at giving Nom-immigrant 'O' visas even if your not married. You need a non-o multiple entry visa which could last up to 15 months. Best of luck.

Thank you to you both for your quick replies, I thought you had to be married to gain a Non-immigrant O visa. Which is why I was thinking about a tourist visa initially.

I will check out the consulate at Hull.

thanks again.

In most cases you do but Hull seem to be a bit more friendly than most. Tell them you and your fiance are going to marry in Thailand.

I have another question, if I did gain a non imm O multi visa, how much time do you get before you have to actually arrive in Thailand?

It is only valid for one year from the date of issue. If you get it but wait a month before arriving in LOS you lose that month.

A multi entry visa is valid for 12 months from the date of issue, you can enter up until one day before the 'must enter by' date, you'll get a 90 day stamp each entry.

You cannot enter after the 'must enter by' date so don't apply too early to get best value for money, it only takes a few days to get the visa by post or half an hour or so if you go in person.

There are consulates in Hull, Liverpool, Birmingham and Cardiff, all are pretty friendly and since you have a Thai child you should have zero problems getting a multi non-o.

Hello thanks for the additional information, I think Hull is the nearest office to me and I would probably go in person, I am not the natural father of the child but I am her dad as far as the family is concerned. thanks again for all the good advice I feel much happier having found out this information now.

I'm just thinking ahead now, how easy will it be to bring my family back to the UK after our stay in Thailand either on a Fiancee or spouse visa? What criteria would we need to meet and what problems if any might I expect to face?

Cheers.

It my be a little early as things could change in a year or more but for that information you should use the other visa forum as the inbound to UK experts are found there. I expect the hardest part may be getting them to leave Thailand as most prefer to stay here - although your GF seems to have at least some experience in the UK weather.

Yes she's been here for a few years now and knows all about the British winters! Of course I will have to cross this bridge when I come to it, but I believe and hope she will return with me. She has some close Thai friends here in the UK and she is close to my own family etc.
