hi i am wanting to know if any of the major uk supermarkets stock a large variety of thai ingredients ie pappaya (for salad) sticky rice, tamarind etc. the chinese supermarkets in our region are quite a distance away from us.your thoughts and views will be much appreciated.jim

ASDA & Sainsbury are increasing their range all the time,Nam Pla,Makoot,Kapi,Pak Choi,galangal (although in herb packet)

Also look up the yellow pages for local chinese food markets ,they will have bamboo,sticky rice,standard Thai rice etc and will deliver for a small charge.

calling the nearest thai restaurant and asking them for their suppliers will show you many options. You can also try to order through the restaurant - they have discounts from the wholesalers and be happy to re-sell at the retail value.

supermarkets have a very limited choice and rather tiny ammounts, for a very occasion thai cooking - thus expensive. Buying larger packaging will save you money
