Adsl 2mb Promotion 1 Year=1000/mo For 2mb But....

Featured Replies

Just a heads up.

I went to pay my TOT phone bill in Chiang Mai yesterday and asked about the new ADSL upgrades in Thailand. She told me everyone's speed was automatically upgraded to 2 MB if they were already receiving 1 MB. After one year, letters will be sent out (most likely in Thai) saying the promotion is over and ADSL for 2 MB will cost 4500 baht per month. She wasn't sure and asked others in the office and they confirmed it.

Just to see if their is consistency with TOT, could other TV members check with their TOT office in other parts of Thailand to confirm this information.

A year is a very long time in Thailand and also with regards to internet connectivity. Anything can happen there & worrying now would be a waste of time IMHO.

double that.

indeed a long time. also, IMO Thailand providers lagging to increase internet speed. Some still sells 256 or 512 connections, would be time for speed raise.

Why dont you check out True, they didnt raise the price in the last 3 years really, only the speed once. I pay 599 currently for a 1 MBit net.

sounds like BS to me :o

But.. Do you REALLY get the speed that they sell you? Maybe surfing in Thailand.. But forget about International.

Remember your real speed is limited by available bandwidth.. so they can sell you any number.. but if the international Pipe is jammed.. then that's as slow as you go. (Which generally means something I've dubbed "Glorified Dial-Up").. Best thing about Thai broadband is the Always-on connection... Which still will ALWAYS disconnect you at least once EVERYDAY.. even in middle of a download.. for me that's usually in the early evening. I can almost set my watch by it.

And there lies the problem.. A mini pipe.. in a maxi world.

Until Thai government.. gets serious about Fiber Optic, (or even coaxia)l and international connectivity.. Thailand will be stuck in Internt dark ages.. 3rd world connections for a head in the mud economy.

So you may as well pay for the lowest Bandwidth offered.. because that's what you're going to usually get anyway.

BTW.. when True opened up I contracted for 2 Mbs.. after checking my speed with international sites.. I began to see that not only wasn't I getting 50% of what I contracted for... I wasn't even getting 25% on a regular basis.. One day I was getting just 5bits.. and i have the Speed test screen print to prove it..

I took the print-outs to True on Ratchata.. had a Huge fight with them, to get them to change my contract.. took 3 Visits... over 2 months to get it done.. and while I was there, met some Thais there that were complaining about the same problem.

Bottom line... until they get hooked onto a major Backbone with a direct connect.. and start to really make fiber or Coaxial universally available.. any search for increased Bandwidth in Thailand is just a "Pipe-Dream".

Just my 2 bits,

CS
