sjaak327
I guess I was thinking of arriving at the airport - it's easy to get stamped in there on arrival - $25 I seem to remember Yes the E-visa is 25 USD, and yes they have special lanes for e-visa holders, but in practice the time gain is minimum, as for instance Phnom Penh airport isn't busy, and they are very fast in issuing the normal 20 USD tourist visas.

Used it and made it 10 times quicker and easier, I had my visa in under 24 hours and it arrived in my mail box on a Saturday. phuketrichard
...."There are almost no restrictions on foreigners owning and operating businesses in Cambodia. You can own 100% of the business, without any requirement for local shareholders, partners, agents, or employees. You are also allowed to work in your business in any capacity, and may employ other foreigners (quite a few places have Vietnamese or Filipino staff, for example). I also understand that it is now possible for foreigners to own property, but the law was only passed a few weeks ago and precise details are still a little sketchy." Almost?? what are the restrictions? Is this 100% true and verified??? Sounds great as it gets harder and harder in thailand. Do they have an good goverment websites with info in English or are there any lawyers like Sunbelt in Cambodia? madted
More info on business visa: If you have a tourist visa you will have to apply for a month biz visa before you can get the longer biz visas - you have to start off with a one month biz visa first and even though its one month you can apply for extension after a couple of weeks. I was told by a travel agent in Phnom Penh that you can no longer apply for the business visa while in Cambodia on a tourist visa. You have to apply before entering the country. Do you know if this is right, and, if so, is it still just as easy to get a business visa without any other documents? Ted
selftaopath
Thanks all, I am starting my 3rd year living/working in Thailand. However the messages re: living in Cambodia seem to indicate a less problematic approach to life than what X-pats in LOS must adhere to if we want to be allowed to remain. uptou
Cheers for that, just the sort of info i was looking for.I totally agree with your points. For people without a thai wife,i dont think the anxiety of not knowing whether you can stay,& so plan long time makes it worth staying. I went to cambodge for a months travel on my own in 2003 so maybe a fair bits changed.I think i had one of the hardest journeys in the back of a pick up truck with 15 others, from stung treng to kratie.I was so bad it was good. A few more questions; Considering i would be taking my asian girlfreind with me,is it fairly safe?(I have the slightest of feelings that i'm irresponsible taking her there as she says up to you to everything i say ) If i wanted to rent a cheap apartment monthly where would you recommend with good internet access,& what sort of price for a one room with attached bathroom? What personal internet options do i have, with reliability? Cheers again

What personal internet options do i have, with reliability? Cheers again Apartments do not usualy come with internet access , but there are so many internet cafes around that should be no problem for you . I have a 2 room apartment with good sized balcony , everything included , furniture , cable TV , cooking facilities , large fridge etc , have to supply your own cooking utensils , pots , pans etc , good sized toilet in room(that works) . Rent is $120.00 a month plus electric , water , cable and cooking gas , comes out at about $45.00 a month , i have my own old computer in the room , have a reliable ISP , rent a phone , $8.00 a month and never get bothered by any-one . With the no-hastle visa and friendly people , Cambodia living is a breeze compared to Thailand , never been approached by police , never confronted by local drunks , ex-pats are friendly , you can start your own buisiness , become a resident in 5 years , own property , sit back and relax . ThunderDuck
The Cambodian Embassy has moved to the road which is a continuation of Ramkhamhaeng Soi 39 (Pracha Uthit?) just around the corner from the Laos Embassy. You will be asked for 1100 Baht for the tourist visa, or if you have US dollars its 25 while you wait or 20 for 2-3 working days. Johan78
Have you had good experience with E Visa Aussie? I personally haven't tried them. Isn't it just as easy to get a visa on arrival? I would imagine its no easier as your still going to have to have it converted to sticker for passport at immigration anyway. And knowing the border crossings there will be maybe an unofficial "convert to sticker" fee. Can't see the point in it myself. The e-visa got two advantages, 1. At some border crossings it can be hard to convince the officials that the visa is $20, with the e-visa that's not a problem and 2. it doesn't take up a page in your passport (no, there's no sticker). // Johan

Regular taxi takes 30 min, motorcyc;e taxis takes 5 to 10 min. Both cost 50B. You tell the gateman you want a Visa. Go in fill out the forms, they don't worry if you can't fill in all the info. You wait 30 min and you have your Visa. Business Visa 3 months is USD$35, they'll gety more out of you by telling you it's 1600B, just smile and say,"$35 dollars, OK." Same scam as at the borders. Love 'ém. Embassy staff are very friendly.
phuketrichard
Cheers for that, just the sort of info i was looking for.I totally agree with your points. For people without a thai wife,i dont think the anxiety of not knowing whether you can stay,& so plan long time makes it worth staying.I went to cambodge for a months travel on my own in 2003 so maybe a fair bits changed.I think i had one of the hardest journeys in the back of a pick up truck with 15 others, from stung treng to kratie.I was so bad it was good. I live over the river on the opposite side of PP andf love it but rent is a bit more. $450/month includes internet ( a $75 value) maid service 2 times a week and a balcony overlooking the Toule Sap river. I have seen in town what under $200 gets ya and i would not stay there. They are all the same, one living room with the bedroom in the middle and no window to the outside ( only to the living room) and a balcony overlooking the street. bathroom and kitchen sometimes outside ur apt . Expect to pay upwards of $300 for one in the riverside area. Electric ranges from 720 riel/kwh ( offical rate) $.18/hour up to 1,500 riel ( thailand is 3,5 baht/ or $.10/hour). Internet where u nee dot work with runs an average of $50-200/month and is not as reliable as u will get in Thailand. Food in most western areas is $4-6/dish Cambodian places u can get a good meat and rice dish for $1.0 and Soriya has a food court where dishes average $1.50 I have met many westerns here that have thai wifes and g/f's and there is no toruble although all miss home. Land ownership is same as Thailand and u CANNOT own land. They are juts starting to alloowing Barangs to own condos but there are very few of those to be had. PLenty safe but dont walk around late at night or ride ur motobike in dark areas as there are LOADS of Cambodians that ride around and steal ladies bags and such. The traffic has to be seen to be believed!! ALSO BE AWARE there have been more than few recent OD's recently from westerns thinking they are buying coke when in fact is pretty strong H so stay away from that and stick with the easily obtained grass Edited March 9, 2009 by phuketrichard

This is not easy to find I will admit , but for $2/250.00 you can get practically the same quality . I have village property in my name .

reissuun
Still a little unclear for me, can I get a visa on arrival at PP airport when arriving from Thailand? I am finnish citizen and my other half is British. Only going to Cambodia for a week's holiday. Flying in but travelling out overlands. E-visa out of question.
