Land plot near Tha Chart Chai (ท่าฉัตรชัย) will be proposed to become Phuket’s new international convention centre

The meeting of a provincial committee to finalize the location for the proposed Phuket International Convention Centre, chaired by Phuket Governor Nirund Kalayanamit (นิรันดร์ กัลยาณมิตร), has reached a conclusion that a 250 rai plot of state land at Pak Phra (ปากพระ) strait in Mai Khao (ไม้ขาว) sub-district will be the location to carry out the project.

The meeting also assigned the Department of Treasurer to be responsible for studying legal procedures plus the joint–venture act, and then present it to the Governor to report to the Minister of Finance for further consideration. The Phuket Governor also prepares to report the progress to the Minister of Tourism and Sports Dr. Suvit Yodmanee who is scheduled to visit Phuket on October 10th.

Expected to cost 3 billion baht for construction, the Phuket International Convention centre is planned to comprise a convention exhibition hall, restaurants, landscape areas and parking space.

Perhaps you haven't been up that way for a while so if you get a chance just drive around there and you will see a lot of new buildings cropping up. Will soon be another concrete jungle and lots of nice places for them to stay.
