Cannot Boot In Safe Mode?

Featured Replies

Hi All!

I was doing some house cleaning on the computer; I run SpyBot and Ad-Aware and some other programs on a regular basis, and having read that running these programs in safe mode finds more nasties thought I’d give it a go.

Boot in safe mode just press F8 on start-up! Well it used to work but now won’t.

When I press F8 instead of the usual options to I get a small DOS type display showing my drives Floppy, HDD and CD’ s with “Please use arrows to select boot device”

F8 has no effect all I can do is select one of the drives or ESC to boot as normal.

What has happened to my Safe Boot?

I did change the motherboard recently but would that have an affect?

Thanks

Sounds like your new motherboard uses F8 to select the boot device, try waiting a little longer before pressing it :o

Right on "Crossy" I was being too keen, by waiting till after the"DEL to enter set up" screen and just before Windows starts up I can get into Safe Mode,

Thanks

UPDATE

I thought pressing the F8 key later solved the problem because at the time I did not need to Safe Boot so just went as far as the options screen and “Started Windows Normally”

Some time later I did want to Safe Boot but when I chose the Safe Boot option it did not work just refreshing back to the options screen till I chose “Start Normally”

Looking through my various programs I had a closer look at Super AntiSpyware and found a “Repair Broken Safe Boot key” option in “View Control Center – Repair Options”

This fixed my Safe Boot problem; there are several additional repair options with the program that may be found useful.

Super AntiSpyware

Just thought I’d share this with you’all
