I been told that its the same has the new Vista. I have down loaded media player 11 and WIE 7 which they and defender is this true.

Windows Media Centre is included in Vista Home Premium, and Vista Ultimate. It's the same interface, but it works a bit smoother in Vista than it did in XP MCE.

i think if you currently have Win XP and download WMC 11, IE-7 and Windows Defender, you basically have a Vista computer (minus the Aero graphics interface (who cares) and a few other minor bells and whistles.

Not even close. They also don't make a Windows Media Centre 11. Media Centre ships with the OS.

sure you can download WMC 11 for xp systems...just to to the msft windows xp downloads or WMP downloads pages!!! i have it on my xp system!!!

i stand by my opinion that except for a few bells and whisles, vista is basically an xp system with the aforementioned add-ons.

Windows Media Player 11 (WMP11) can be downloaded for XP, but there is no way of getting Vista's Windows Media Center software on XP.

Anyway, "bells and whistles" are what differentiate new versions of operating systems most of the time...Windows 95, NT 4.0 & 2000 were the only Microsoft systems of the past 10-15 years which could be considered "significant" - XP is still the best OS they put out, but it is not a marked departure from Windows 2000. And people had exactly the same complaints when it launched - too much "bling", not enough new features, bla bla bla...when the developers catch up and take advantage of Vista's new capabilities, the tide of negativity will definitely shift.

I assume you mean windows media player 11 ?? Theres no windows media center 11.. hes right.. your wrong..

And saying Vista is XP + WMP + Defender is just crock.. I may not be overjoyed with vista but its more than that. Be realistic.

agree that there are significant internal plumbing improvements in vista vs. xp (especially in areas of security, web access, graphics and memory handling) but these will only become apparent or compelling when software publishers rewrite their programs to take advantage of these improvements. (in addition, many of these improvements are best when using really high-speed broadband internet connections which we have yet to see here in LOS.) therefore, no use buying vista for a least a year or so (at least wait until vista SP 1 is released).

as for me, i'm looking forward to xp sp3 to be released next year and hope to continue using xp for another few years. why fix what's not broken.

If everyone thought like that we would still be watching two channels on our 6 inch Black and White TV.

Vista is probably as big a jump as a Windows operating system has ever taken, I enjoy it but you do need a beast of a machine to get the best out of it, although this time next year that same spec machine will be mid-range.
