Upgrade Internet Speed, True

Featured Replies

So I call True and ask them if they can upgrade my service from 1 Meg to 2.5 Meg. I'm not sure it would make my internet drastically faster, but I figured it was worth a shot. The service person seemed to be confused about what package I currently had as she kept insisting that I had a 256k connection (which I don't!), so my phone call to them didn't get off to a good start.

Eventually she finds me in her database, and tells me she's sorry, 1 Meg is the fastest connection in my area, something about me being too far from the hub. I live in Klongsaan, just over the Chaophraya in Thonburi. Do any of you on this side of the river have a connection with True that is faster than 1 Meg? Would it make a difference if I talked to somebody else at True, or visit one of their stores directly? Was she right in saying that I can't get any faster speeds?? Thanks for any help!

Go see them in person it's the ONLY way to get things done with them...if at all!

Your DSL maximum speed is contingent on your distance from the central office, or the nearest switching hub. Essentially, your maximum distance should be no more than 15,000 feet, for the minimum speed supported.

Anywhere around 5,000 to 7,500 feet, you can realize best speed - above that, it decreases gradually.

The key for you to find out is what your actual distance (i.e. cable length) to the hub is, though it may be that you're at the maximum speed for your location.

We are on the west-side of the river in Rachaburana/Tungkruh Prachauthit Rd. and also asked True for an upgrade from 1 to 2Mbps earlier this year.

Their response: Our area is saturated with subscribers (many Internet shops) and though technically possible we won't get much speed improvement with an upgrade.

So we stick with the 1Mbps and are reasonably happy for now.

Two of our neighbours did upgrade from 256 to 512 earlier this year but I don't know anybody here who has more than 1Mbps.

Call True and I think you should be able to get the 1Mbps.
