Getting mine tomorrow, can somebody recommend me a place to get it unlocked.

depends if it is 1.1.1 firmware or 1.0.2 firmware. Only option for 1.1.1 at the moment is Iphonesimfree software which u will need to buy and run through the steps.

1.0.2 u can just do yourself or take it to MBK.

Was in MBK today, 4th Floor, nearly everybody is selling the iphone, now they have advertising for the phone all over the place as well, todays price, 22k for the 8g model

My friend had the older firmware, and he got it unlocked on his own for free using downloaded software, and is now using it here without any problems. There will probably be a free unlock for the newer firmware coming out pretty soon.

Considering the the iPhone is sold for around 14k baht in the US, 22k here is a bit much. Of course, it's a matter of supply and demand, but still, for something this small and readily available (in the US), it's pretty ridiculous.

Edit: according to Engadget, the newer firmware unlock is out, and free.

I did the unlock with my 1.0.2 iPhone as well, went relatively smoothly. Works like a charm on AIS :o

Are there idiot-proof instructions for the 1.1.1 unlock anywhere? I couldn't find any...

With the 1.0.2 unlock I also had to find the instructions first, and despite claims that it was now "one click" to unlock it took a series of about 10 steps or so to get from shrink-wrapped to unlocked iPhone. The instructions worked well enough but it was a far cry from one click...

There are in the Hackintosh forums. But if you unlocked your 1.0.2 phone with anything other than IPSF then you are stuck until the devteam release the Virginiser (Wish I one of those for a night out in BKK as well as the Iphone :o )

Or of course purchase IPSF to make it easy. I am waiting also.......Tempted to just buy IPSF

Could you post a step-by-step of what you did? Would be really interesting... I don't currently know if I can recommend anyone to do this themselves or if it's way out there in geek-land...

Ok this doesn't sound too bad, even though there's a scp involved:

Only works on 1.1.1 phones, not on already unlocked 1.0.2 ones.

Edit: Congrats! :o

On hackintosh forums.

They now have posted steps to virginise your hacked 1.0.2 update to 1.1.1 and run anysim 1.02 to hack 1.1.1.

Long procedure by the sounds of the guys who have done it - straightforward tho but a couple of hours work.

In addition they reckon they might have a GUI for this method on monday or tuesday.

I think I'll wait for that, thx for the info!

1.1.2 is supposedly coming out soon so I might just skip 1.1.1 entirely.

I dont have a step by step method.

But basically what you have to do is......

downgrade to 1.02,and use InDependence to jailbreak it.

Use cyberduck to copy apps to the iphone.

I then used anysim.app,to unlock the sim section. And now use it with a true topup simcard.

But they downgrade thing is tricky, you have to follow the instructions very closely.

Good luck.

Ahhh, well but there is a method out there to break 1.1.1 _and_ unlock it, too!

The difference is that you then end up with a 1.1.1 unlocked iPhone.

Note that this doesn't work for phones that have been unlocked using the 1.0.2 methods. Nickkbh: DON'T try it. You might end up with a brick.

New methods that do it all are coming... iPhoneSimFree already has a solution that can unlock and upgrade any iPhone even if it has been previously unlocked, even if it has been bricked, and regardless of the firmware version on the phone. And the free open source version of that is coming real soon now.

Ok, I just saw someone playing with his iPhone on the BTS... own up, who was it? :o
