Compaq 800 Laptop

My Wife has been offered a 2 year old Compaq 800 as she wants to buy a laptop for her son.

Not beeing a computer expert or anything like, can anyone advise what is it worth?

The guy selling it wants 12,000 Baht, it looks OK but does not have a lot of software with it.

She reckons he would take 10,000.

I looked on e-bay but could find nothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as she has to give it back or buy it tonight.

A couple of months ago Makro were selling off some old stock.

You could buy a brand new if old spec Compaq notebook for B9,990.

Doesn't answer your question but I hope it adds perspective.

Check the PC specs. I have a Compaq 800 in my cupboard. The motherboard died. It's almost 5 years old. No way can a Compaq 800 be 2 yrs old, this model was obsolete four years ago.

If it still works, 6000B max would be ok.

It is nice to save money, but don't save yourself short.  If ya really need laptop fine, but a low end new desktop can be had for about 13,000 and if ya do get a laptop there are some new low end types at about 17,000.  If your not a techy its worth the extra money to get solid equipment.

1. The 800 is a lot older than 2 years, think they came out in 2001

2. They used a proprietary connector for the CD, so if it doesn't have that you could have more problems.

I'd be very cautious, seems like a lot of money for a PIII notebook.

I think that is a Presario 800, but I was referring to an 800. ( http://www.it-sohu.com/pic/digi/0048.jpg ) which was a Pentium 4 processor and came out in the shops in Bangkok early 2004.

You should at least enquire about how fast the CPU speed is and how much RAM it has. You can usually get a pretty good picture of the rest of the machine from these two factors. Maybe you could post these figures here to help answer your original question.

Which was an Evo model I think, <need head scratching emoticon> or is just 800 a SE Asia designation? Agree with the post above, need to know what's inside, is the OS XP and does it match the windows sticker underneath? If you have net access with it, download siw.exe {link below} and that will tell you more than you ever wanted to know.

I have a Compaq Presario V1000, 3 yrs old that I will let go for 12000THB.

It was 48000 THB when new at IT store in Pantip.

Has a new 160GB Hard Drive.
