My 2.3-yr-old has four little brownish upper incisors rather than pearly white big front teeth. We went to Mission Hospital in Bangkok yesterday, where a dentist looked at her briefly and recommended we return tomorrow to see the specialist. The dentist thought my daughter would need to have her four top teeth out.

The rest of her teeth are fine and white, and we do brush her teeth and not give her sugars to drink. She was on mum's milk for two years, plus fruit and so on, but nothing to excess. It seems the top incisors have not fared as well as the rest of her teeth so far. Is removing them the only option?

Can any dentist out there give me some general advice on this?

Many thanks.

Hi,

To begin with, I am not a dentist.

My daughter who is now three years old had simmilar problems when she was a simmilar age to your daughter. About six months ago she had sixteen teeth removed with four remaining. The specialist advised the removal of her teeth based on the belief that it would assist her adult teeth to grow through. I think my daughter was in pain before she had the extraction because once she had her teeth removed, even without teeth she is eating more.

It for myself was scary to have such major dental work performed. She was placed under a general anaesthetic and in total the procedure took around one hour, some time afterwards she was bouncing around as her usual self and I am now glad we went ahead with what I will admit was a daunting procedure.

Chok Dii :o
