I'm not one to bother the doctor, so this ailment goes back about 4 years :o

When I lived in the UK, I started a job with a company whose office was in a basement that had not been used for several years. It was rather damp!

After working there for a few weeks I developed a cough and wheeziness which gradually got worse and worse until I found myself coughing/wheezing almost all the time, and unable to speak because my speech would be interrupted by explosive coughing fits!

I did go to my doctor who advised me that my lungs had been infected by a fungal spore that inhabited this damp office. He gave me some medicine but did tell me that I would have this infection for life (doctors are great arn't they??)

Anyway, I learn that I could minimise my coughing/wheezing by exercising every day. I also noticed that damp weather exacerbated my problem.

So that is actually one reason why I moved to Thailand, because the warm/hot weather seemed to do me very good and my coughing was minimised.

But with all this damp weather it has flared up again. (I was laid low last week with a dose of Thai shrimp food poisoning, so I couldn't get to the gym to work out!).

It's not so bad right now, but it does make me wonder if there is something that could be done to treat/kill it once and for all!

I live in Silom, so the BNH Hospital is quite close. Do they have any good specialists, or can anyone suggest/recommend a doctor?

Luckily, paying for treatment will not (should not?) be an issue. (My medical insurance will not cover it as a pre-existing condition so I will have to raid my piggy-bank)

Thanks for your advice

Simon,Wifes doctor/friend is one of the consulants at Phyathai hospital and although his particular speciality is Gyni-Obsts.he also works at Vichaiyu which I am told is top for heart/lung conditions.

I am sure he can put you on to the right Doc.

If you like I will dig out his mob.number and you can give him a call.(not on board)

Thanks! Doing some Googling seems to come up with a fungal infection called Aspergillosis. The symptoms are exactly right and I started to get asthma immediately after my doctor identified this as a fungal infection.

Alas, it seems, no cure!! But steroids etc can control it. Anyway, do PM me any contact details since clearly I would like to have a doc's view on it.

All the major hospitals, government and private, have pulmonary specialists.

It would help if you could be more specific e.g. what type of lung problem.

He is not my primary doctor but I have been treated by Dr Teerasak at BNH. He is competent and friendly and speaks good English. Lung problems are his specialty.
