Ricotta Cheese

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if it's possible to get ricotta cheese in Surat Thani or Had Yai? How about Samui? I'm sure one could find it in Phuket but that's a bit far.... though I will go if necessary.

Cheers,

Daren, i would take the bike to Samui which isn't far and get your ricotta cheese in either Tesco or the Italian food shop near the ferry pier in Samui. They have a great choice of dried meats and cheese.

Cheers hedgehog!

I'm really surprised Tesco would carry it! Would that be the Tesco in Chaweng? Do you happen to remember the name of the Italian place?

Might go this weekend!!! :o

You know you can make your own ricotta really easily? You just need milk, vinegar, salt and the right kind of pan (non-reactive - stainless steel or enamel). Here's how.

Have you tried it? In the recipe she indicates adding salt to the milk, and then adding after the vinegar. I wonder if that is a mistake since there is no indication in the ingredients that salt is to be added twice. I wonder when it should be added?

Well a little inspiration sometimes goes a long way! I never considered the fact that ricotta would be simple to make! After reading billp's post I googled and found this neat blog entry comparing a few different recipes for ricotta! I'll report back with my results soon. :o

Daren, looks like you have just saved yourself a long trip. I will be trying that when i get home from work today, its seems to simple. I'll post my results with a picture.

Cool! I'm excited to hear how it goes for ya! Also, that video uses rennet which is probably difficult to get in Thailand. However, believe it or not, I think I have some in my cupboard!! Will try both ways and let you guys know.
