Ubc Disconnection

Featured Replies

Can UBC disconnect remotely by closing down the little black box at the push of a button ?

They can do quite a bit remotely to your box. For example, if you are late on your bill payment they will send a message to your TV screen telling you so. If you are very late they will shut down your channels remotely so you can no longer watch. They have Pay For View, and that is activated remotely. Upgrading service packages, again can be done remotely by computer.

Do you have a specific problem at the moment?

They're not doing something to your box, but they can re-program your smart card, which will then know which channels to open or not to open.

Doing this they can upgrade your package, downgrade it, open up a certain pay per view channel, or stop the card from opening any channels at all when you fail to pay your bill :o

They can also upgrade the software in your box, but due to the multitude of brands of UBC boxes around, they try to avoid needing to do that, since it always creates a serious mess with lots of failed upgrades, resulting in their help lines getting immediately swamped, and remaining so for several days until they slowly manage to clear up the mess they themselves created :D

And sometimes keeping Thaivisa busy when it happens. :o

I have been a member of UBC for nigh on 7 years and in that time I have spent well over 100,000 bht on their service. During those years, there really wasnt any much choice but to subscribe if you wanted to watch English language movies and sport but this is no longer the case. UBC have monopolised the satellite subscription market and year on year, the quality and content of movies and series has deteriorated so badly that I feel it no longer worth subscribing to any of their packages.

With the advent of highspeed adsl and the multitude of torrent and other p2p programs available hasnt the time finally come to discard the prohibitively expensive and pitifully poor UBC service and enjoy the freedom of choosing your own quality programming to watch and enjoy.

As of the end of this month, I will be cancelling my subscription and I would strongly urge others to consider doing so. Why pay such a high subscription charge for 10 - 15 year old B movies, endless repeats, censorship of nudity, smoking and swearing and shoddy quality when the very latest programming from your home country is so widely and easily available for your enjoyment

JAF,

What alternative programming source will you be switching to?

I have sent you a private message as I would not want to break any forum rules by discussing this in detail on the forum board
