Domestic Air Travel- Malaysia

Featured Replies

just heard a schedule which I am not sure will be workable or not. Someone going to Penang to renew Non Imm B, after handing over Passport to Thai Consulate, the person hopes to then take a flight to KL for a meeting before returning to Penang to pick up the passport.

Not sure whether it is a requirement for non Malaysians who travel on domestic routes to have a passport in pocket. To compound matters the Air Asia web sitestates that foreigners who travel domestic to EAST Malaysia must carry a passport !!

Anyone know ??

Even on domestic flights a passport is a necessary travel document. Put it this way I worked there for the last 18 months and had a Malaysian immigration gold expat identity card. This specifically stated on the back it is not a valid travel document.

Thanks for that. Yes that was my guess als, but as I said the Air Asia web site confuses matters by stating travel to East Malaysia requires a passport,

Sorry forgot to add, that was for domestic air travel.

You are supposed to carry photographic ID with you at all times, as in Thailand, but I was never asked for it in the time I was there.

Probably just to serve as a reminder that East Malaysia (specifically Sarawak) has separate immigration procedures from Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah.
