I was at the IT Show at MTT (Impact) today and finally saw some semblance of a plan to pick up HDTV in Bangkok. From what I could understand, True would begin offering sometime in 2008 (I heard different answers from different people, but anywhere from late spring to the end of the year).

True had a display of a set-top box connected to a HDTV showing a very nice HD picture...and it wasn't the dated 20 year old looking crap that True has out now. This box had an HDMI output and was quite up to date. I will patiently wait to see what more info comes our way and whether there is an upgrade required to the current dish and/or LNB.

Hopefully this will be more than just a few movies (as the set-top box appeared fairly sophisticated and resembling units used in the States for HD Satellite viewing). So,...I guess this doesn't mean that Bangkok TV will be broadcast in HD, but likely that True will offer HD off of satellite for those living in the Bangkok area (much, much more doable since the Satellites already have the ability to broadcast in HD).

I have my fingers crossed. Please update with any and all relevant info as it comes your way.

BTW, the IT Show was well worth the time and will go on until the 25th (reminded me of the annual electronics show in Las Vegas, but definitely not to scale and with a very Asian touch).

what other tv cable providers are there in Thailand that might offer HDTV now? or at least cable with BBC ...
