Eneukman
When you renew your retirement visa, for how long does your existing passport have to be valid? Also, are there any special requirements for obtaining a new (UK) passport at the British Embassy in Bangkok? And, finally, how easy is it to get the visa (and the relevant re-entry permits) transferred from the old passport to the new one? Thanks, Alan

astral
Issuing a new passport takes about one week at the British Embassy. They will also leave pages with valid visa's uncancelled, so that you can still use the visa. Then go to immigration and they will transfer the visa into your new passport. It will only take a few minutes and no charge.
Axel
As Dr. said, they want your p/port to be valid as long as your permit to stay. If not, they will limit the validity of the permit (or extension) to the date of your p/port's expiry and add a small remark why. Once you have your new p/port (don't forget to bring along the old, voided one) Astral said it, very fast and at least in Bangkok no need for extra form. re-entry-permit always follwos the validity of your permit to stay. Previously I was adviced to apply for a new one for the new p/port. Last year, however, immigration agreed to put a copy in the new one. I.e. they explained, cannot transfer but after some friendly talk they came with the copy-idea and stamped underneath the re-entry a remark saying this is a certified copy. Free of charge at the re-entry counter.
