Forbidden in los

Can anyone give me a run down of items that we are forbidden to import into Thailand?  I have a weapon collection (no guns) and I would really like to keep it.  Besides the obvious things such as drugs, guns and the like, does anybody know?

It is prohibited to bring any of the following items into Thailand:

Narcotics such as marijuana, hemp, opium, cocaine, morphine, heroin, amphetamine etc.

Firearms or ammunition.

Obscene or pornographic materials.

Some species of wildlife.

Anything bearing an incorrect image of the Thai flag

Hard to believe this is the complete list.

Will post again if I get a better one.

No mention of weapons, so maybe you can bring your WMD with you. TiT.

Plants and animals have to be specially cleared.

I heard once it was illegal to bring in Father Christmas images - I got this from someone who worked at a company that exports, amongst other things, chocolate lolipops. He said that when they were to send out shipments to LOS they (presumeably customs) allowed the snowman, raindeer and xmass tree lollipos, but would not allow the Santa ones!

Computer equiptment has to be powered up on entry - this is difficult with parts (hard drives only etc) so are best shipped or taken with a small base unit/laptop (and/or maybe an internal to external kit).

There are limits to the electrical things you can bring in too - though I think this is just tax related - pay=ok (TiT).

Sex Toys can be a problem depending on the immigration officer. Officially, they are considered obscene, and you could be fined and have them confiscated.  I have a friend who brought in some dildos, vibrators and strap-ons. They let him keep the vibrators, but confiscated the strap-ons and realistic dildos.

Sometimes tablets are inspected, better to have a doctors note for sleeping pills or strong pain killers.

I got hassled once for my laptop, I think the immigration was just causing me bother, I kept smiling and said it belonged to my company.

Don't bring a roulette wheel in, even if it's for fun, that is a no,no.

Top shelf mags will be confiscated for sure, but usually just to keep them themselves. Once they nicked my 'Loaded' magazine!

Those crafty officers....They must know that Loaded has pictures of quality birds wearing next to nothing, Let's face it they're not gonna be reading any of the stories, I rarely do !!!   :o

Are you sure about this? i.e. "HAS TO BE POWERED UP". Does it happen every time? I was thinking of bringing my desktop PC (base unit only) back to Thailand next time I fly to the UK. I posted a question about doing this but no-one mentioned a power-up. Do you think there will be a problem?

brianbrain, as with everything else listed here - it depends if you get stopped, and who stops you. I have never brought a laptop in personally, but have heard that this happens frequently (power up the Laptop). They could be checking anthing from obscene material to dodgy software to 'checking its not a bomb pretending to be a PC' etc.

Also, I understand most people just bring the HDD rather than the base unit - just more bulky to carry through. HDD can also be sent in a jiffy bag etc ahead of time.

Playing cards are actually illegal in LOS - gambling conatations I suppose. Farangs playing cards are usually ignored though. However, they may well be confiscated if found at the Entry gate.
